1. Legal Information Required on a Company Website
The following relates to legislation in the Companies Act 2006 & the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive)
Regulations 2002 and is relevant to companies within the UK.
It requires for certain information to be included somewhere on the website (in legible characters!). This might be
on every page, on the ‘contact us’ page, or on a special page specifically for such information – the choice is yours.
In accordance with Companies Act 2006, the following must be shown:
 Company’s full name and geographic address
 Address of company’s registered office
 Company’s registration number and place of registration (e.g. "XYZ Enterprises Limited is a company
registered in England and Wales with company number 1234567")
This should all be the information of the company with which the consumer is transacting – if this is different from
the Trading details of the company such a difference should be explained.
In accordance with Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002, the following must be
shown:
 Company’s email address (a contact form is not sufficient)
 Company’s VAT registration number
 If the company is a member of a trade or professional organisation, the company’s membership details,
including any registration number.
