Rieks Towing strives to provide their customers or their customers with the necessary towing and
recovery services/ facilities for vehicles that may have been mechanically disabled through accident
or mechanical failure.
We are therefore proud of our reputation and standards of professional, quality care and commitment
throughout every Rieks Towing Branch.
Rieks Towing currently has a Level 4 B-BBEE Score with a Procurement Recognition Level of
100%, as rated by a verified agency for the period April 2015 – April 2016.
We were proud to be celebrating our 30th Birthday in 2014 and furthermore exceptionally proud to
be Independently Owned and Operated. We couldn’t have done it without our customers’ support.

The company was established in 1984 by the Managing Director, Louwrens J Riekert, as an one
man operation and has had a steady growth throughout the years.

6. History & Infrastructure
Rieks Towing has since expanded to one of the leading towing and recovery contractors in Southern
Africa. Rieks Towing has done various interesting and non-conventional recovery jobs ranging from
airbag recoveries, moving a Dakota Airplane from OR Tambo International to Wonderboom Airport, to
helping vets rescue a 7 ton Elephant and Rhino and transporting Former US Pres. Bill Clinton’s Vehicle
from Kasane to Gaborone.
Numerous awards have been awarded to Louwrens Riekert, but some of the more recent awards
include:
In 2009 Louwrens J Riekert was inducted in the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame
and Museum (http://internationaltowingmuseum.org/hall_of_fame/louwrens-riekert/).
In 2010 received the Medium Duty Donnie Cruse Memorial Award for excellence in service
presented by the American Towman Magazine and WreckMaster.

10. What We Specialise In
The primary field of Rieks Towing’s operations revolves around the retrieval of broken down or accident
vehicles.
Additional to towing and recovery services, Rieks Towing also offers a specialised transport division
which caters for the transport of earthmoving equipment, cranes, agricultural equipment etc. This line of
business has only been pursued to assure better equipment utilisation and consists of less than ten per
cent of our annual turnover.
All services rendered in terms of this agreement will be performed within the scope of the predetermined
procedures and guidelines.
11. Recovery Training
Rieks Towing spends a lot of time and resources on in-house training, as well as the attendance
of recovery schools and seminars in the United States. Personnel at operator level are also
included in this program.
Rieks Towing uses some of the best equipment available and this combined with a dedicated
team of trained personnel provides a professional recovery and towing service to any concern
that needs to take care of their towing problems in an efficient manner.
12. Equipment Standard
Rieks Towing operates a fleet of recovery vehicles to attend to any vehicle related problem. This
fleet consists of various recovery units, ranging from ten to seventy-five tons, towing vehicles
equipped with under reach lifting equipment, tractors and low-bed trailers as well as transporters
and an air cushion recovery unit.
The high standard of equipment and high level of maintenance of these units were one of the key
factors when Sasol nominated Rieks Towing as their preferred towing contractor for the towing
and recovery of their commercial fleet. The equipment of Rieks Towing (Pty) Ltd is upgraded
on a regular basis to ensure that clients benefit from the latest technology available in the towing
industry.
13. Response Time
Rieks Towing will not commit our self to a set reaction time, but would commit our self to take
immediate action on any accident. This would ensure that the incident will enjoy our highest
priority and the correct personnel and equipment are dispatched with a matter of urgency. Within
one hour, excluding travel time, from the time that the call was placed, Rieks Towing can have
personnel at the scene of the incident from our nearest depot. Rieks Towing will normally be at
the scene of the incident before authorities have concluded their investigation and declared the
area safe.
We are also using a short message service system which will notify you, the client, when a unit is
dispatched to the scene, arrives at the scenes, the progress of the recovery and is done with the
incident. This service is provided at no extra cost.

14. Cooperation With Local
Authorities
A good working relationship is maintained between Rieks Towing and all the local authorities in
the areas where we operate. Although some of the local authorities would prefer to support the
local operators in the area, it has never been a problem to get their support and cooperation once
they realised that the services has been called for by the owner/ insurer of the vehicle involved in
the incident.

15. Subcontractors
Rieks Towing utilises the services of subcontractors in most major towns where we do not have
branches to supply towing services to our customers at the rates as per Rieks Towing agreement.
The use of this service enables the customer to have better control over the management of the
fleet as one service provider takes the responsibility of that aspect for the whole fleet.
Approved service providers as subcontractors are available in the following areas:

This service can be extended to other areas as well. Where the service of a subcontractor is
needed, the instruction will be given to Rieks Towing Head Office. Rieks Towing Head Office is
responsible for processing the call and communicating with the subcontractor.

16. Hazchem Clean Up
Should the need arise for Hazmat cleaning at a scene, Rieks Towing normally contracts Sasol
Accredited Oil and Pollution Control Company, Spill Tech. Because we consider ourselves
specialists in the field of Towing and Recovery and because Hazchem Cleaning is a specialised
field in itself, Rieks Towing utilises the services of Spill Tech, which offers a variety of
Specialised Services in this regard.

17. Specific Procedures
Certain procedures were put in place to ensure consistent uniform service throughout. The
procedure relating to the operators or service being provided are available as a separate
document and can be provided on request.

18. Accident Reports
A written report can be submitted on every accident. Photographs are usually taken (conditions
permitted) and included in the report. Typically the report contains:
Information about the area where the accident happened (Photographs, schematic illustration
etc.);
Information regarding the damage to the vehicle and load;
Arrival, recovery, labour and departure times; and
Any other relative information.
Reports are supplied on request of the customer at cost.

Safety

Safety &Health integrity of our activities, processes and facilities at all times and all places. We
are committed to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and other requirements and will
implement programs and procedures to assure compliance.
We will employ management systems and procedures specifically designed to prevent activities
and other conditions that pose a threat to human health, safety or the environment. We minimise
risk and protect all persons working for and/or on behalf of Rieks Towing and the community in
which we operate by employing safe technologies and operating procedures, as well as being

performance and use these opportunities as a guide in setting objectives and targets. The

Information
Since the 22nd of March 2012, Rieks Towing (Pty) Ltd adheres to the Promotion of Access to
Information Act (PAIA) which requires all Private Bodies in South Africa to prepare, lodge and
publish a PAIA Information Manual registered with the South African Human Rights
Commission.

24. Environmental Awareness
As a leader in our industry, it is of the utmost importance to Rieks Towing to be environmentally
responsible. At Rieks Towing we recycle 100% of our cartridges and approximately 75% of our
paper used. Rieks Towing also supports the recycling of all used electronics such as cell phones,
used and irreparable computers at our nearest recycling depots.
