6. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
There are many different kinds of
festivals celebrated across the
country. Each festival is a reason for
celebration. These are:
Biniray, Buling-Buling,
santacruzan, Sandugo, Dinagyang,
Kadayawan, Ati-atihan, Salakayan,
Guling-guling, Peñafrancia,
Moriones, Masskara, Sinulog,
Panayana and Pahiyas.
7. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Salakyan Festival – salakyan which means to
“attack” is a festival that depicts the struggle
between the ancient people of Miag-ao and
their enemy, the bandits.
The highlight of the celebration are the
salakyan contest which is a street drama and
dancing depicting the victorious battle of the
local defenders against the moro bandits who
attached the people of Miag-ao.
8. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Panagbenga – Pinagbenga is the
flower festival of the Philippines
which is celebrated the whole
month of febraury in Bagiuo City.
The festival is highlightened by a
pared pof the floats artistically
decorated with flowers.
Participants from different tribes
of Baguio are all dressed in their
colorful costumes.
9. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Guling-guling Festival -
Is celebrated in Paoay,
Ilocos Norte the day prior
to Ash Wednesday with a
grand party on the streets.
The male paoayeNos are
dressed in native kamisa de
chino and abel trousers and
the ladies are in their abel
kimona and pandiling.
10. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Peñafrancia Festival – is a
religious and cultural affair.
It starts with a procession of
barefooted men carrying the Virgin
Mary from Peñafrancia Shrine in
Camarines Sur to the Metropolitan
Cathedral.
The Virgin is carried back to
PeNafrancia in a richly decorated
pagoda followed by a fluvial parade
of bancas carrying lighted candles.
11. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Masskara Festival – is
celebrated in Bacolod every
third weekend of October or on
the closest weekend of October
to commemorate the founding
anniversary of the city.
The event is celebrated with
Mardi Gras Style of Colorful
dancers wearing gaudily
decorated mask dancing on the
street to the Latin American
beat.
12. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Panayana is a cultural presentation
based on historical event like the
battle of Panay.
The production emphasize the new
art called choreographic singing of
the Visayan Folk song.
The original composition is
Hiligaynon dialect.
The highlight of the presentation is
Aringkindingkinding, showing
uniqueness in choreography.
13. PHILIPPINE FOLK FESTIVAL
Pahiyas is a festival celebrated
in Lukban, Quezon in honor of
San Isidro Labrador.
Pahiyas is a kind of decoration
that is living in individual
houses to signify good harvest.
Make different kinds of pahiyas
(kiping or decorative leaves)
using lumpia wrapper.
