ALA’S INTERNATIONAL LIBRARIANS NETWORKING PROGRAM POSTER
1. ALA’S INTERNATIONAL LIBRARIANS NETWORKING PROGRAM POSTER
Annierra’s Experience
Annierra lives in Douglasville, Georgia, United
States. She’s a Research Services Librarian for a
private college. She helps students and faculty with
research, particularly, non-traditional or older
students returning to school. There are different
library campuses, and her library doesn’t have any
books. However, students can borrow electronic
books and books from other library campuses. She
enjoyed learning about Farhana’s library. She
learned that Farhana does the same things as
librarians in the U.S., such as creating book fairs,
helping students, and implementing new
technology. She loves Farhana’s passion for the
field, especially her interest in technology. She
learned that Farhana uses the same resources as her,
such as Google Scholar.
Farhana’s Experience
Farhana Islam Auishie, who is from Dhaka,
Bangladesh, is occupied as an Assistant Librarian
at an International English Medium School. She
mostly serves the students and the faculty
members of this school with books, research,
information service, etc. Farhana’s other passion is
to talk with other librarians in the field to enrich
her knowledge. This platform gives her the space.
Annierra, who is a research librarian, deals with
different aspects and has the passion to serve the
young and older patrons in technological service.
She’s passionate about serving patrons and
meeting their needs.
Similarities and Differences
Both partners attended school to become
librarians, and both of them work with students.
Farhana’s students are much younger than
Annierra’s. They both use technology at their
jobs, but have different goals for it. Annierra
wants to help older students get comfortable with
technology; Farhana wants Internet and
technology to be more accessible in her country. In
Bangladesh, librarianship isn’t taken seriously, and
men don’t think women should be librarians. In
the U.S., people have misconceptions about
librarians but tend to think positively of them,
like being smart and enjoying reading. Women
mostly dominate the library field instead of men.
More work is being done to include librarians
from different cultural backgrounds in the U.S.
