International Medical Corps is seeking two female Arabic interpreters to work in Thessaloniki, Greece. The interpreters will work with gender-based violence case workers and social workers to facilitate communication between refugees/migrants and service providers. Required qualifications include fluency in Arabic, English, or Greek as well as flexibility and experience working with diverse cultures. Responsibilities include interpreting medical and everyday conversations and translating materials into Arabic.

International Medical Corps Hellas has been implementing primary health, psychosocial support, WASH and
GBV programming in Greece since 2015 supporting the needs of refugees and migrants.
Job Summary: The Interpreter/Translator will work with the Gender Based Violence case workers as well
as with social workers to facilitate the dialogues with refugees and migrants. Fluency in English or Greek
and at least one beneficiary language (Arabic/Kurdish/Farsi/Dari) required.
Essential Responsibilities:
Acting as an interpreter of spoken communication between medical unit, psychologists and social
workers
Facilitate effective communication between the aforementioned parties
Interpret both medical terminology and everyday language
Explain the utility of a product or service taking into consideration linguistic and cultural
background of the communities living in the camps
Provide language services to healthcare patients with limited English proficiency
Translate medical informational brochures or relevant materials issued by site doctors or hospitals
into Farsi if needed
Read aloud documents in Farsi language while written in English
Accompany refugees/immigrants during referral service to hospitals
2. Use dictionaries and glossaries for reference
Skills and Requirements
Fluency in Arabic/Farsi is a prerequisite.
Fluency in English/Greek
Must have the flexibility and ability to work effectively with various personalities and cultures
Ability to coordinate effectively with all organizational levels, third parties and other NGOs or local
agencies
Must have a socially sensitive, helpful personality with sense of humour
Previous NGO experience will be considered an asset
Female Interpreters are strongly encouraged to participate
