5. • What grows naturally in a particular part of the world depends
mainly on the climate, especially the temperature and rainfall.
Tea plantation demands
evenly distributed rainfall
with no water logging
issues. The hill
slopes provide an easy
drainage of the rain water.
flat lands are better for
rice farming to allow
balanced water
distribution.
7. AMAZON RAINFOREST
Size: 5,500,000km2
Type: Tropical
Location: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana,
Suriname, French Guiana
The Amazon is the biggest rainforest in the world
9. General Characteristics
• Tropical rainforests receive about 2000 to 3000 mm of rainfall
every year.
• The temperature remains steady at about 24° C to 26 °.
• The leaves of these forests do not fall in autumn.
• Because of the quite dark beneath the canopy, trees have few
branches and very little leaves, except at the top.
• Trees are very tall and can reach up to 60 meters in height.
• The air is normally very still blow the canopy, so tropical trees
are rarely pollinated by the wind.
12. General Characteristics
• Monsoon forests are found scattered to the north and south of
the true tropical rainforests into they merge.
• They are similar to tropical rainforests but receive less rain.
• After a long dry season, there are high amount of rainfall in a
monsoon forest that can exceed 2000mm.
• In monsoon forests temperature varies around 20-25 degree
Celsius.
• The soil is nutrient poor and acidic.
16. General Characteristics
• Tropical grasslands are located inside the Tropics.
• They have a hot dry period when the sun is overhead, and a
cooler, wet period when the sun is in the opposite tropical
region.
• In the wet season, they are rich with green grass and leaves.
• In the dry period, the grass turns brown and the leaves fall
from the trees.
