1. The Fear Factor
By:Hunter
Question: Will seeing scary pictures
and hearing scary sounds affect heart
rate
2. Hypothesis
• Yes, your heart rate will indeed rise if you see or hear
something scary. One of the major reasons why your heart
rate increases is due to the hormone adrenaline which is
released into your bloodstream when you are scared or
frightened, adrenaline speeds up the breathing and and
heart rate so your body is prepared for anything that could
harm you. Also, when adrenaline is released into your
bloodstream it causes your body to go into a state of being
called the Fight or Flight instinct this will cause
Your heart rate to increase significantly because of the Fight
Or Flight instinct which causes your body to be ready to
fight back at something or run away from something.
3. Test Subjects Heart Rate Before
Experiment
• Trinity- 96 beats a minute
• Caitlin-100 beats a minute
• Ethan-100 beats a minute
• Brad-96 beats a minute
4. Test Subjects Heart Rate After
Experiment
• Trinity-120 beats per minute
• Caitlin-124 beats per minute
• Ethan-116 beats per minute
• Brad-120 beats per minute
6. Observation
The test subjects heart rate increased
significantly due to the scary pictures and
sounds I showed them when they were not
expecting it.
7. Conclusion
Based on my results my hypothesis, that your
heart rate will indeed rise if you see or hear
something scary was correct. It was correct
because when I showed the test subjects a
scary picture when they weren’t expected
there heart rate increased because their body
released a hormone called adrenaline.
