25. A horse dying is up there as one of the most painful things you
can experience.
A Trauma Room Doctor told me about his experience with a
horse he was involved with. The trainer stayed with the horse
all night as they were trying everything. They lost her the next
morning. He said he’d only ever felt that enormous sense of
loss before when a large family had gathered, the was a
overwhelming sense of energy encompassing everyone.
It’s key we appreciate that horses are completely different
from humans in the forces that are at play when running that
can cause them to breakdown, in their biological capacity to
repair & recover, in their life quality after major injury, and in
the effectiveness of treatments/surgery etc.
26. Support for ‘Send Horse Racing the way of the Circus’ groups like
PETA is growing because:
Universities are capitalising on cheap credit and lending huge amounts to young
people in exchange for degrees in completely made up subjects. Indoctrinated and
with no real hope of using their education to pay off their debt these individuals
struggle to accept that the politicians and media they trust have harmed them.
Now that they’re older and society is losing interest in these individuals they’ve
got more time on their hands and are desperate to find something easy to do that
can get them attention and add purpose/meaning to their lives. Horses are the
perfect victim because they can’t talk.
Friends and family may encourage them (with online support or maybe even
attending a protest etc) in their mission as they notice that having this new
purpose seems to make their loved one feel much better.
There’s so little to worry about in modern society that the media has to give
audiences causes and the horse racing industry is perfect because what’s
happening isn’t a real world problem (it’s actually the pinnacle of animal welfare)
and so issues can’t be scrutinised beyond the ‘shocking’ visuals & headlines.
27. Campaigning to ban racing is especially appealing
because:
Racing is a sport that’s bank-rolled and enjoyed by the affluent
families that they may be envious of and may even blame for their
mistakes and failings in life.
The industry hasn’t successfully adopted social media which makes
it very easy to score goals against them and gain popularity online.
The wall to wall live HD coverage of racing makes it easy to share
video of incidents. Imagine how much our habits would change if
we could watch HD video of our Bank Manager or Doctor at 3am
on the night of their Christmas party!!
It feels like you’re onto a conspiracy as there’s no business
interested in having the counter argument with you & those in the
industry are only interested in showing you the good work they do.
28. The Horse Racing industry is great
at assembling circular firing squads
Regulations and Licensing make Horse Racing probably the most
difficult thing to watch.
Cameraphones are banned at most tracks due to gambling issues.
The industry doesn’t have a united representative body and so
can’t communicate consistently on topics like welfare, public
relations, etc.
The parasites ('animal rights charities’) have managed to
convince the host (the horse racing industry & its supporters)
that they need it. Unfortunately the parasites only want to
financially bleed the host and no interest in improving the rights
of animals.

Veterinary Surgery
42. In 2006 I launched the world’s first service to provide
Mobile Video consultations with Registered Doctors.
43. I started working with mobile connected Patients and it
showed me the underbelly of the sick care industry.
44. Modern medicine is run by gangsters and every decision
they make is designed to make more money.
The current search for medical knowledge is built upon a materialistic data set focused on
disease. This means that you should expect Machine Learning used by a corporation in human
medicine to be limited to excelling only in a financial context.
What we regard today as “Science” has been developed through a prism of materialism.
In the equine world sick care is a nonstarter and so the leaders still have most of their science
developed from their heritage and spiritual perception.
Most Doctors are traumatised by their job, have been distracted from ever considering the
actual cost of the sick care they provide, & there are tightly enforced regulations in place to
make it impossible for them to fix the problem.
Doctors who have looked at the science for themselves become
“Out of the Box Doctors” who are deemed worthless by society.

81. Time spent Racing
In 43 races this horse made £14.5M. Her longest race was 152 seconds.
Bred & trained to race in total she raced for less than 100 minutes.
A >0.01% fraction of her life which will now be provided with the
world’s best care & nutrition in the hope that she’ll live into her 40’s.
Compare to what a human athlete in a high impact contact sport like
rugby or boxing eg. Mike Tyson boxed in a ring for 58 professional
fights (in total 196 x 3 min rounds). That’s 588 minutes toe to toe
with an equally trained fighter trying to assault him.
Add to that years of sparring practice…

84. With the right sensor technology in place to predict and prevent
problems and learn from accidents (like Boeing or Airbus might)
and the resolve to make preventative measures we may have to
accept that one of the most optimal places from an animal
welfare angle for a horse to die is quickly on the track on the
basis that it will never happen again.
If we optimise animal welfare everywhere else it may be that
there’s no opportunity for a horse to be collapse anywhere else.
Once it’s a working system and we can show the lives saved we
will all give up on conventional medicine as we’ll be able to use
HorseTech to optimise our lives so we can be as healthy as
horses.
87. Imagine the possibilities…
Seamlessly collected cardiac &
respiratory data could help prevent
injury and deaths by activating a
strobe instructing the jockey to pull
up safely.
Imagine if stewards could securely
activate a strobe at the push of a
button to terminate a race or just a
particular horse in a race for rule
breaking etc
88. When the most travelled animals can’t safely travel
you’ll reconsider that holiday or business trip…
92. International Horse Racing is a
“Canary in the Goldmine” for Society
Every time society loses it’s acceptance of hierarchy
it triggers a war.
Tech has made it easy for the upper class sections of society
to lose their sense of community with the working sections of society.
93. International Horse Racing is a
“Canary in the Goldmine” for Society
Genetic engineering and cloning/surrogacy
(like we have already in the equine world)
are one of the biggest threats to the planet.
94. The control of Ageing will separate the world
into the have and have-nots.
We’ll solve the mystery of ageing in the racehorse first
which makes this one of the world’s most pressing areas of study.

101. Engaging the Equestrian with the value of data science
Machine learning systems have an endless attention span that’s
perfect for repetitive tasks.
The equestrian industry is currently the victim of a media that has
embraced data science to propel anti-racing rhetoric.
Integrating sensors and IoT into ML systems enables equestrians to
prevent errors, learn more about the horses & knowledge they have
and advance training and nutritional regimes
Tech Companies wanting to deploy ML tech in human health
applications can skate to where the puck is going by deploying their
best and brightest in the equine world as the learnings there will be
invaluable.
102. Engaging the Industry with the value of data science
Where are the
opportunities for…
Data Scientists
Mathematicians
Data Analysts
Technicians
Analysts
Community Managers
Engineers
Lab Technicians
Statisticians
Design Engineers
103. Engaging the Owners with the value of data science
Don’t you use this same tech
in your day job?
The ROI is clear: tech
increases your horses chance
of winning by improving the
quality of their training,
reducing the chances of
injury, giving you data that
can be used to better train
their progeny, less downtime
means more track experience
and breeding value…
104. Engaging the Trainers with the value of data science
Today they may spend more
time managing an owner than
their horses.
Mobile apps can fix this
overnight and better engage
owners (+ open up
opportunities for those with
data science expertise to add
value).
105. Engaging Veterinarians with the value of data science
Clients judge you on your
ability to use tech. If you’re not
up to date with your use of
consumer tech they’ll infer that
your medical knowledge is
equally outdated.
The is a world of new career
options open to the
imaginative young Vets who
grew up with supercomputers
in their pockets especially now
that Horses are getting
connected.
107. The horse will lead us to understand how to use technology to improve healthcare. It will
help us move beyond the $Trillion sickcare industry thats based on over-measuring, over
monitoring, over-diagnosis, over-medicalisation and over-treatment.
HorseTech will help us accept ing that everything can’t be solved as though it’s a
quantitative scientific problem. For success with the global horse racing market you have
to realise that you can’t level everything like that because you have to be able to see and
appreciate hierarchies of purpose and beings.
Analogue thinking is tough and challenging but it allows us the most opportunity to
expand our lives.
HorseTech teaches us to do everything to avoid mistakes but to also not shy from doing
something from fear of them.
HorseTech teaches us the limits of where and how we should use technology. Even a basic
look into the transhumanism or genetic engineering fields and you’ll find corporations led
by people who understand less than an equestrian who has never even bred a horse.
Using Data Science to reconnect people who have lost
their connection with the Horse
