2. Representations
• Young adults as messy, drink loving drug
abusers who get into fights and cause
vandalism.
• Females as provocative, easy and uninhibited.
• Males as violent, sex focused and also
uninhibited.
3. Mise en Scene + Camera Work
• All aspects of camera work are from what would be a
‘womans eye view’ with the video being what he sees. This
allows viewers to fully immerse themselves in the character
and rather than her emotions, her character is developed as
the viewer will begin to understand him.
• The womans flat is dirty, messy and is littered with
drink, clothes and drugs which boosts the view of young
adults as negative creatures.
• Throughout, there is constant grime and drink to emphasise
the negativity associated with drink and these young adults
which is then highlighted with the man getting into fights and
being sick.
4. Reasons for Offense?
• It portrays young adults particularly men as
violent, drink obsessed vandals.
• It shows females later on in the clip to be very
provocative and uninhibited in their actions.
• The final scene is of the woman with another
woman performing sexual acts which would
highly offend many religious groups and many
older adults who are heavily against nudity
and homosexual actions on video.
5. Stereotypes
• Young adults as messy, destructive ‘yobs’
• Young females as being provocative and
‘slutty’
• Young men as violent, sex obsessed people.
• All drinkers as binge drinking party animals
who cause destruction.
6. Stereotype Subversions
• There are none. This music video adheres to
every single negative stereotype of young
people.
• The entire video does not challenge this view
in any way and does not show any positivity
whatsoever.
