Personal investment report on february 7
1. Hoang Le Cong - 1
Personal Investment Report on February 7, 2017
I. Portfolio Composition
26 shares of F
35 shares of AMD
2 shares of AIRG
9 shares of WDC
24 shares of MU
II. Portfolio Strategy
Since my capital is limited, my
strategies are as follows:
Portfolio will always consist of 4
main stocks that is divided into 3
categories: dividend stock, capital
gain stock, and hedge stock. All
stock that I choose must be below
$100 per share.
Dividend stock: will provide a
stable stream of dividend so that I
have a small amount income no
matter what happens to the market.
Capital gain stock: is where most of
the gain comes from. I mostly look
into semi-conductors as I’m familiar
with the industry
Hedge stock: select a big and well-
known company that is stable.
III. Reason for investment
1. Ford (F)
Auto sales has been growing since
2010 which made it an attractive industry to invest in. New data suggest
that auto sales have hit peak so there are speculations that the auto

industry will decline soon. However, as a person who long F in the long
term, I don’t feel that this would significantly affect the company.
Ford is a big and stable company with reliable dividend stream.
Ford’s high annual dividend yield at 5% and low price per share make it
the perfect pick in the auto manufacturing industry.
Comparable such as Nissan, Fuji, General Motors, Honda doesn’t satisfy
both requirement: dividend yield >5% and low price per share.
2. Advanced Micro Device (AMD)
AMD have lost a large market share to Nvidia since 2010. However,
AMD is regaining market share and attracting attention from the market.
The phenomenal return from AMD this year is largely due to speculative
investor and mostly driven by market sentiment rather than technical or
fundamental
Of course, AMD have earning surprise since fiscal Q1 2016. The fiscal
Q3 2016 EPS is -$0.01, beating expected EPS of -$0.02, which is good.
However, EPS is still negative and I’m wondering if AMD could sustain
this current trend even with negative EPS.
If I see a trend in AMD stock price going down below $12.50, I will exit
my position. Another thing that is interesting about AMD is that the stock
price doesn’t fluctuate much with the enforcement of Trump’s travel ban
although AMD is an international company that have deals with some
Chinese semi-conductors. It also doesn’t get boosted by Trump’s rally
Its biggest competitor, Nvidia, is attractive as well. However, price per
share is high so it is not effective for capital gain.
3. Airgain (AIRG)
A company that went IPO on August 20th
with offer price of $8.
Also a semi-conductor company but in antenna, not CPU and GPU.
I bought Airgain because it is an IPO company that have growth potential
After getting enormous gain from AIRG jump from $15/share to
$29/share, I exit my position on AIRG and only keep 2 share of it to
watch out for important market movement.
4. Western Digital Corporation (WDC)
The biggest company in data storage industry.
3. Hoang Le Cong - 3
The death of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and the introduction of Solid State
Drive (SDD) is changing the industry rapidly.
Earning have been beating expectation for the last 3 fiscal quarter. The
fiscal Q2 2017 beat expectation by 20% which sent the stock price
higher.
Finished merger deal with San Disk and currently in the process of
integration and synchronization. Expectation is high for the next quarter.
Big banks asking question about what the company have in place for
5. Micron Technology (MU)
An American Corporation that manufactures various semiconductor
devices such as random-access memory, flash memory, and solid state
drive so it correlates with WDC as well
Drive and memory is changing fast with these NAND flash, 3D XPoint.
I invest in MU because first of all, it’s an American Corporation during
these times of uncertain political
policy. MU wasn’t hit by the
Trump’s travel ban and although its
stock price is going up slowly, I
believe it to be a growth stock or
capital gain stock. I have high
expectation for MU in 2017 if the
Trump administration wants to
revive and boost domestic
manufacturing.
IV. Overall Portfolio performance
The portfolio is up 59% since
May 17th
. Investing in small companies
that just went IPO seems to be a good
idea so far. However, during the time of
political uncertainties, I decided to take
a more defensive or safer approach.
Also looking at the last 1 month, I have
what the Trump rally to thank for but
long term stability matters more now.
