Adjective clause adalah klausa yang memodifikasi noun atau pronoun dalam kalimat kompleks. Adjective clause diawali dengan relative pronoun seperti who, which, whose, that, atau relative adverb seperti when, why, where. Relative pronoun who digunakan untuk noun hidup, whom untuk objek, whose untuk kepemilikan, which untuk memilih di antara beberapa pilihan, dan that lebih tegas dari which.

• Adjective clause merupakan klausa yang tidak dapat berdiri
sendiri (dependent clause) yang memiliki peran
memodifikasi pronoun dan noun dalam suatu kalimat yang
kompleks.
• Ciri kalimat ini dimulai dari memiliki subjek dan predikat,
serta diawali dengan relative pronoun (who, which, whose,
that, whom) atau relative adverb (when, why, where)

• Who
Digunakan untuk adjective clause yang noun nya adalah
orang/sesuatu yang hidup atau bernama.
Contoh:
-Sandy the first person who helped the victims of the
accident
-He doesn’t like a girl who understimates herself, he is the
real man

Digunakan untuk Noun yang menjadi objek.
Contoh:
-I don’t know to whom I should send my letter
-We wondered to whom they were talking about
• Whose
Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kepemilikan benda oleh suatu subjek.
Conto:
-Anam, whose cat was found by me, gives me a gift
-She works on a company whose name I can’t remember

Digunakan untuk menunjuk satu benda diantara beberapa benda yang
harus dipilih.
Contoh:
-My car which is lost yesterday has just been returned by police
-Lisa, which has come to me two weeks ago, will return to my house this
afternoon
• That
Penggunaannya hampir sama dengan which akan tetapi that lebih tegas
Contoh:
-I need to tell you that I love you so much (RIGHT)
-Dog, that has Latin name Canis Lupus Familaris, is a carnivore
(WRONG)
