2. INTRODUCTION
Today ,almost all activities that we perform in real life like
communication, buying goods, banking etc. can be achieved
through the Internet. While executing all these activities,
information is exchanged between computers .The security of
information passed over Internet is a primary concern .In this
section ,we will discuss about Information security and various
issues like copyright and trademark violations etc.. That we come
across while surfing the Internet.

3. CONCEPT OF INFORMATION
SECURITY
Information Security is a set of practices designed to keep
personal data secure from unauthorized access and alteration
during storing or transmitting from one place to another. The
basic security concepts important to Information On the internet
are confidentiality, integrity and availability . Concepts Relating to
the people who use that information are authentication and
authorization .

4. Intellectual Property Right(IPR):
• Many people are engaged in creative work like music,
literary work, artistic work, discoveries, inventions,
Designs and software development . These works are
the creation of the mind They demand a lots of hard
work and time. The outcome of such work is called
Intellectual Property.
• IPR refers to the exclusive right given to a person over
the creation of his/her mind,for a period of time .IPR
enables people to earn recognition and financial benefit
from what they invent or create .

5. • IPR owners can disclose their creation in
3xchange of money .The company which
receives the rights, markets and sells this
innovation to society. In this way IPR owner,
the company and the society benefits from the
creation.

6. World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO):
• It ensure that the creators of Intellectual
Property are protected world wide and the
inventors are recognized and rewarded by
their creations .
• WIPO was established in 1960 as agency of
United Nations (UN).

7. Intellectual Property is divided into two
categories
✔Industrial property
✔Copy Right

8. A. Industrial property:
• Industrial property right applies to industry,
commerce and agricultural products.
• It protects
▫️patent invention
▫️Trademarks
▫️Geographical Indications
▫️Industrial design
• In India, industrial property right can be
registered with controller General of patent
designs and trademark under ministry of
commerce and industry.

9. Patent: A patent is the exclusive rights
granted for an invention
• It is the legal right obtained by an inventor for
exclusive control over the productions and sale
of his/her mechanical or scientific invention
for a limited period of time.
• To be patentable, an invention must:
▫️Relate to a process or product
▫️ Be new
▫️Involve an inventive step
▫️Be capable of industrial use
▫️Not be developed with the intention to harm
others

10. Trademark: A trademark is a distinctive
sign that identifies certain goods or services
produced or provided by an individual or a
company. A trademark can be name, logo,
symbol etc.that can be used to recognize a
product or service
• It provides protection to the owner of the
trademark by ensuring the exclusive right
to use it to identify goods and services.
• It help consumers to identify and purchase
a product or service. A trademark must be
registered. The initial term of registration is
for 10 years .the It can be renewed.

11. Industrial Design:
• Industrial design refers to the attractive or visual
aspects of an article. A design may consists of 3-D
features such as shape, surface of an article or 2-D
features such as patterns, lines or color.
• It applied to variety of handicrafts like
watches,jewellery etc.Eg:registered design of Coca-
Cola bottle and iPhone .
Geographical Indications:
• Geographical Indications are signed on goods that
have a specific Geographical origin and posess
qualities due to that place of origin.

12. • Agricultural products typically have qualities
that derive from their place of production and
are influenced by factors like climate and soil.
Place of origin may be village or town, region
or a country
Eg: Aranmula kannadi and palakkadan matta
rice

13. B.Copy Right:
• A copy Right is a legal right given to the
creators for an original work ,usually for a
limited period of time.
• Copy Right applies to a wide range of
creative, intellectual or artistic forms of
works which include books, music, painting
,sculpture, films,advertisement and
computer software.
• This cover Right for reproduction,
communication to the public ,adaptation
and translation of the work.

14. 1. It’s reproduction in all forms including print
form and sound recording
2. It’s public performance and communication
to the public;
3. It’s broadcasting
4. It’s translation into other languages
5. It’s adaptation, such as from a novel to
screenplay for a film

15. Infringement:Unauthorized use of intellectual
property rights such as patents, copyright and
trademark are called Intellectual Property
infringement.
• Patent Infringement : caused by using or selling a
patented invention without permission from the
patent holder .
• Trademark infringement : occurs when one party
uses a trademark that is identical to a trademark
owned by another party ,where both party use it for
similar product or service.
• Copy Right infringement : reproducing,distributing
displaying or adapting a work without permission
