• be aware of the level of personal responsibility, together with the
professional codes of conduct & ethical dimensions of work as an EYP;
• have a detailed knowledge of working practices & the underpinning
theoretical frameworks & national standards which relate to such practices;
• be confident in evaluating their own practice, be able to reflect on that
practice & be able to challenge received opinion relating to the work of an
EY Practitioner;
• be able to work effectively with a team of staff &/or volunteers,
demonstrating proactive leadership, conflict resolution & professional
negotiation;
• be able to act autonomously, with minimal supervision or direction & within
agreed guidelines across the three age phases required of an EYPS.

They are usually run by PVI Sector
organisations, though some
Children’s Centres etc are run by the
Local Authority.

4. Your Commitment includes...
1. 3 X 30 Day Placements, organised by UWE (Day = 5 hrs contact time)
2. 6 visits overall (2 per placement) by UWE Visiting Tutor (VT). Who will
undertake observations, offer written feedback & discuss next steps
3. Regular mentor/support meetings will occur with Setting Staff:
Workplace Mentor (WPM) or Room Leader
4. You will develop a Personal Practice File; sharing it with the V.Tutor &
WP Mentor (as appropriate)
5. ‘End of Placement Reports’ will be completed by Setting
representatives & returned to UWE.
6. You will be Professional in your approach… putting theory into
practice, upholding policies & procedures, e.g. through the setting -
gain written consent in advance from parents/carers re. photos, etc
