What is a Monitor? A display screen that provides a visual output. Monitors are very important because without them you wouldn't be able to do anything.
History VDT and terminals monitors introduced in 1980’s. They only displayed text in 2 colours usually black and green. In 1981 IBM introduced the CRT monitors which could display 16colours. XGA and UXGA introduced in 1987 can display up to 16million colours.  1990’s LCD monitors were introduced.
How do they work? LCD monitors have a black light at the back which provides the light for the image.  The light goes to various filter that distribute the light evenly on the screen. Finally the light goes through the pixels which makes the image.

Future Trends Future trends of computer monitors are OLED (organic light emitting diode). With OLED there no back light required therefore monitors can very thin.  3D monitors which can be used to play 3D games and watch 3D movies
