My chosen genre is Pop and Mainstream Music. Pop music originated from the
1950’s and was influenced by rock and roll. Despite coming from the abbreviation of
the word ‘popular’, nowadays this genre is associated with music that targets a large
audience, rather than how popular the artist is with any individual. Pop music usually
has a basic format which follows the verse-chorus structure. Repeated choruses,
melodic sound and hooks are usually involved. The type of imagery associated with
Pop music is bright colours, happiness, young girl and boy bands, which usually
attract a wide audience with their catchy, upbeat music.A list of artists in this genre
are Taylor Swift, One Direction, Justin Beiber, Shakira, Adele, Celine Dion, Madonna
and Britney Spears.
