2. Vincent Van Gogh (30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890)
1. When Van Gogh rst began painting, he used peasants as models & later would paint owers, landscapes & himself,
mostly because he was too poor to pay the models!
2. Vincent created a total of 2000 pieces of art which included 900 paintings and 1100 sketches/pencil drawings that
are now known to be some of the greatest works of art ever created. That too in a span of just 10 years!
3. He used to sit in a corner wearing his English top hat & besides ignoring the customers, he’d do a remarkable task:
he’d translate the Bible into 4 languages: Dutch, German, English and French. He’d divide the page into four and
inch his way through it in all of them simultaneously!
Nicholas Roerich (October 9 1874 - December 13 1947)
1. A Russian philosopher, scientist, traveler, artist, archeologist, poet, mystic, spiritual teacher & social activist!
2. He was a dedicated activist for the cause of preserving art and architecture in times of war!
3. The minor planet 4426 Roerich in our Solar System was named in honor of Roerich!
4. Nicholas Roerich spent much of his life seeking hidden treasures within the landscapes of the earth and within his
own being. The paintings he left us are the maps to these sacred places and are there for us to use as we seek our
