2. What is an audience?
An audience is a group of people who are put
together in order to watch or listen to
something which can be; a concert, movie,
meeting or many other things.
3. Twodifferent
typesof
audiences
Active audience – This is the type of audience that
actively engages with the text, they don’t easily accept
the text instead they interpret it in their own way. This
can be based on their past experiences, education,
cultural influences and family. This links to theories
such as ‘The uses and gratifications model’.
Passive audience – This type of audience accepts what
they’ve seen instead of actively engaging with it. They
don’t question the type of message that is shown
instead they believe it. This links to the ‘Hypodermic
needle theory’ where a type of media injects a certain
ideology directly into the audience.
