2. Introduction:-
Green tea has increasingly become a very popular
drink worldwide because of its immensely powerful
health benefits.
It is extraordinarily amazing what green tea can do
for our health.
3. Camallia Sinensis
“Green tea” is produced
from the plant Camellia
sinensis, whose leaves and
leaf buds are used to
produce Chinese tea.
4. As it is not allowed to wilt
or oxidized it has higher
antioxidant content than
other tea.
It contains beneficial
natural chemical called
Polyphenols.
The caffeine content is
lower than other drinks.
Nutritive value of green tea:-
5. Health benefits of green tea:-

6. But Is Green Tea a Promising
Natural Product In Oral Health?
7. Effects of Green Tea on Oral Health:-
Prevention of caries
Antiviral Properties
Healthy Gums
Abolation of Halitosis
Prevention of oral cancer
Protects from oral oxidative stress.
8. Prevention Of Caries:-
Magalahaes et al found that one week of
mouthwash with green tea was able to reduce the
salivary levels of cariogenic pathogen.
In an study it caused reduction in acid production
and impaired ph decrease by a mechanism
inhibiting the enzymes lactate dehydrogenase that
leads to the formation of lactic acid from
pyruvate
9. Antiviral Properties:-
Polyphenol act as an antioxidants, inhibit enzymes that
damage cellular membranes and prevent binding and
prevention of virus to cells.
EGCG prevents infection from influenza virus by
attaching to viral haemagglutinin.
Green tea can also interfere the mechanism of HIV-
1,HSV-1,adenovirus,Epstein barr virus and more.
10. Abolition Of Halitosis:-
Lodhia et al. found that green tea powder
succeeded to abate the creation of odorant Sulphur
compounds and consequently halitosis for an
hour.
Zeng et al. demonstrated that green tea extract
was able to remove the odorant Sulphur's.
Few of mouth spray and chewing gum contain tea
polyphenols.
11. Prevention of Oral Cancer:-
In rats, oral cancer was induced by 4-Nitroquinoline-
1- oxide. The number and volume of tumours were
smaller on the average compared with rats that did
not receive green tea.
Tea polyphenols may induce apoptosis and cell
cycle delay in tumour cells but not in the normal
cells thus, affecting number of biological pathways.
12. Protection from Oral Oxidative stress and
Cigarette smoke induced inflammation
Maruyama et al. have shown green tea catechin effect
in reduction of gingival oxidative stress.
Cigarette smoke destroys oral cavity homeostasis. It
decreases salivary antioxidant status, initiate oral
inflammatory disease and promote oral malignancies.
Thus green tea drinking may reduce cigarette
smoking oxidative and inflammatory damages to oral
cavity.
Green tea is different from other tea…
Polyphenols are responsible to provide antinflammatory and anticariogenic effects.
Catechins -EGCG is the most abundant. & it hasShown to stimulate the body to burn fat
Yes, green tea has many promising effect in oral health
(1.6 g of green tea in 40 ml water 3 times a day)
such as streptococcus mutants andlactobacilli
Green tea may encounter various viruses which are found in the oral cavity.
Tea extracts or EGCG protected against chemical carcinogens in several organs such as intestine, lung, liver, prostrate, breast and mouth.
They have been given green tea polyphenols extracts.
Cigarette contains more than 4700 chemical compound out of them Nicotine and Acrolein causes gingivitis and periodontitis ECGC may be helpful to reduce ACROLEIN damages as they quench ACROLEIN and other unsaturated aldehydes.
Thus green tea drinking may reduce cigarette smoking oxidative and inflammatory damages to oral cavity.
I wd like to say that as green tea has soo many health benefits keep………….
