18. When did you first come to know about
menstruation period?
• Most came to know about menstruation between 7 years
of age to 16 years of age
• Most got information from, mother, sister, maid or school
• When I saw my mother menstruating at the age of 8/9
• so young, I cant remember... my mom belongs to a family
of 6 sisters, someone or the other was always having a
period
• When the maids who took care of us refused to enter the
Pooja room ... 7-8 years

22. Your first thought around menstruation?
Painful and burden
Now I have to be mature
Too much blood
Why only women have these
What to do now? Am I dirty now?
Painful
I did not know about it, so had no thoughts
Disgusting
What is this?
Oh shit... I m bleeding

Women will definitely get it
No clue what was happening, thought I was sick

Thought it as one of the natural things to happen
No issues, what so ever it's become a part of being. though
would not mind if it wasn't.

it is part of growing up

• There was a mixed response many said their first experience was
perfect as they were well informed and many said it could have been
better, many felt , they were not informed and ready for it.
• Some wished that information could have been more scientific
• Some wished that information could have been imparted in a more a
safe manner and not in a way of making them afraid of this monthly
cycle
