RESEARCH STATEMENT
A true-experimental study to assess the effectiveness of laughter
therapy on stress reduction among nursing students in selected
colleges of district Mohali, Punjab.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
 To assess the prevalence of stress among nursing students.
 To assess the pre intervention level of stress among nursing students.
 To assess the post intervention level of stress among nursing students.
 To compare pre and post intervention level of stress among nursing students.
 To find out the association between level of stress with their socio demographic
variables.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
 Effectiveness: Refers to the extent of the stress reduction after giving laughter therapy as
evidenced by the difference in pre-test and post-test stress scores.
 Laughter: Laughter therapy refers to the therapeutic technique that provides mental and
emotional benefits through laughter.
 Stress: Stress is the body's reaction to a change that includes a physical, mental or
emotional adjustment or response.
• Nursing student: A person who is studying in 1st year of Basic B.Sc. (N) and G.N.M
course at selected colleges

The tools intended to be used for this study are:
 Section A : Socio-Demographic variables.
 Section B : Perceived stress scale (PSS) by Cohen S. is a standardized tool to assess the
level of stress.

The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of Academic Stress (EA) in the educational spaces of students in the first semesters of the degree in Rehabilitation Human Acupuncture (AHR), which not only affects students, but also anyone who has a transaction role in the face of a stressful factor, understanding that in individuality it will generate a dependent variable between the interpretation before the stimulus or situation with the individual's resources, which in the first instance, are psychological in a process of evaluation of requirements or demands to know if that stimulus or situation is stressful, subsequently the result of the resource vs. threat variables together with the interdependencies of unpredictability, uncontrollability and constancy of stress. Objective: Intervene in the reduction of stress, as well as in the improvement of cognitive aspects through the practice of Qi gong (QG). Research Methodology: A non-experimental cross-sectional study with a comparative descriptive scope was carried out to measure and compare variables and categories of academic stress of the participants. The already validated scale of academic stressors was used ( Cabanach, Souto-Gestal and Franco (2016) . It consists of 54 items and is used in university students, the responses are Likert type of five points (1=never, 2=almost never , 3=sometimes, 4=almost always and always=5). Results: The cognitive aspects were evaluated and we obtained that the QG helps the educational and learning process, as well as the perception of work and educational dynamics. In the following graph we see how to feel that sometimes the perception of never improves and rarely what tells us that the practice of QG improves, the perception and the sensation of overload of work, this is due to the fact that it generates relaxation and better oxygenation. The cognitive aspects were evaluated and we obtained that the QG helps the educational and learning process, as well as the perception before work and the educational dynamics. As we can see in the following graph, we see how to feel that sometimes it improves the perception never and rarely what tells us that the practice of QG improves the perception and feeling of overload of work, this is because it generates relaxation and better oxygenation.

In managerial position, manager must be capable to control their emotions and manage themselves so that they can they can perform in better way as well to lead the workforce in the right direction. In this study, an attempt has been made to find and compare the effectiveness of the interpersonal skills training programme for emotional control of bank managers. A sample of 120 bank managers working in banks in Kurukshetra, Panipat, Sonipat and Karnal was selected for study. Out of 120 respondents 60 were selected for experimental group and rest 60 were selected for control group. Scale developed by Dick (1991) was used for improving interpersonal skills. The data was interpreted with the help of mean, standard deviation and ‘t’ test.

Objective: The aim of the study was to identify level of stress among nurses according to their job status. Background: Stress is highly associated with nursing profession. This stress is caused by several factors both personal and organizational such as educational level, gender, nature of work environment and work overload etc. These factors directly or indirectly expose nurses to a considerable level of stress. If a nurse works at two places, their stress level will predictably be much higher than that of those who work at a single place. Methodology: Quantitative analytical cross-sectional study design was applied in a private tertiary care hospital at Peshawar, Pakistan. Study population included all nurses working in the mentioned hospital. Universal sampling technique was used for double jobber nurses, while convenient sampling technique was used for single jobber nurses. An adopted questionnaire was used for data collection. Chi-square test was applied to analyze the data. Result: Among double jobber nurses, 23.33% had severe, 63.34% had moderate, and 13.33% had mild level of stress. On the other hand, there was no severe level of stress among single jobbers; only 20% had moderate and 80% had mild level of stress. Conclusion: The current study identified that level of stress was higher in double jobber nurses as compared to single jobber nurses. The study would have been more generalizable if more tertiary care hospitals were included for data collection.

Kaye1 Published online: 13 February 2019 © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2019 Abstract Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has demonstrated initial efficacy for the treatment of eating disorders (EDs). However, no study has examined potential processes that may contribute to observed improvements in DBT for EDs. The present study sought to investigate changes in DBT skills use throughout treatment as a predictor of symptom change in a DBT-based partial hospital program (PHP) for adults with EDs. Adults [n = 135; M(SD) age = 25.08 (7.88)] with EDs completed self- report measures at treatment admission, one-month post-admission, and discharge from PHP. DBT skills use, as measured by the DBT Ways of Coping Checklist, increased by 12.65% from admission to one-month post-admission and increased by 24.10% from admission to discharge. Early (admission to month 1) and later (month 1 to discharge) improvements in DBT skills use predicted greater improvements in ED, depressive, and emotion dysregulation symptoms from treatment admission to discharge. Notably, early versus later change in skills use was a stronger predictor of outcome. Results are consistent with the theoretical model of DBT and add to a growing literature on DBT for EDs. Keywords Dialectical behavior therapy · Eating disorders · Skills use · Predictors · Partial hospital program Introduction Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an intervention origi- nally developed for patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD; Linehan 1993), posits that maladaptive, impulsive behaviors function as misguided attempts to regu- late unwanted emotions (Linehan 1993). Accordingly, DBT aids patients in developing alternative, adaptive behavioral skills to help improve effective self-regulation. Given well- documented associations between depression, difficulties with emotion regulation, and eating disorder (ED) symptoms (Lavender et al. 2015), recent research has examined the efficacy of DBT for EDs (Bankoff et al. 2012). There is a growing body of evidence to support the use of outpatient DBT for EDs, with studies demonstrating efficacy for the intervention compared with waitlist (Safer et al. 2001; Telch et al. 2001) and active control conditions (Chen et al. 2017; Safer et al. 2010). Additionally, per APA practice guidelines, DBT has demonstrated efficacy for the behavioral and psychological symptoms of binge eating disorder and has demonstrated initial efficacy in the treatment of bulimia nervosa (Yager et al. 2005). Chronic stress can have serious physiological and psychological impact on an individual’s health. Wearable sensor systems can enable physicians to monitor physiological variables and observe the impact of stress over long periods of time. To correlate an individual’s physiological measures with their perception of psychological stress, it is essential that the stress monitoring system accounts for individual differences in self-reporting. Self-reporting of stress is highly subjective as it is dependent on an individual’s perception of stress and thus prone to errors. In addition, subjects can tailor their answers to present their behavior more favorably. In this paper we present an adaptive model which allows recorded stress scores and physiological variables to be tuned to remove biases in self-reported scores. The model takes an individual’s physiological and psychological responses into account and adapts to the user’s variations. Using our adaptive model, physiological data is mapped efficiently to perceived stress levels with 90% accuracy.

2. RESEARCH STATEMENT A true-experimental study to assess the effectiveness of laughter therapy on stress reduction among nursing students in selected colleges of district Mohali, Punjab.

3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY  To assess the prevalence of stress among nursing students.  To assess the pre intervention level of stress among nursing students.  To assess the post intervention level of stress among nursing students.  To compare pre and post intervention level of stress among nursing students.  To find out the association between level of stress with their socio demographic variables.

4. OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS  Effectiveness: Refers to the extent of the stress reduction after giving laughter therapy as evidenced by the difference in pre-test and post-test stress scores.  Laughter: Laughter therapy refers to the therapeutic technique that provides mental and emotional benefits through laughter.  Stress: Stress is the body's reaction to a change that includes a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. • Nursing student: A person who is studying in 1st year of Basic B.Sc. (N) and G.N.M course at selected colleges

5. The tools intended to be used for this study are:  Section A : Socio-Demographic variables.  Section B : Perceived stress scale (PSS) by Cohen S. is a standardized tool to assess the level of stress.
