Grenada's U17 women's national team lost their opening match of the CONCACAF U17 Women's Championship 13-0 against Haiti. Despite the large loss, Grenada's captain Aaliyah Jackson remained confident in her team. The team included both local and overseas players aged 10-15. Grenada played well early on but Haiti scored 9 goals in the first half. Grenada's coach was proud of the team's effort and stamina against the stronger Haitian side. The Grenada Football Association pledged to invest more in women's grassroots programs to help the team improve for future matches.

Grenada Still Hopeful Despite Loss in First Match Against Haiti

"We gave it our best, but in every game there must be winner and a loser."
Grenada's U17 Captain Aaliyah Jackson faced the camera head on speaking to the
media after losing 13-nil to Haiti in the opening of the CONCACAF U17 Women's
Championship Grenada 2016.It was the young team's maiden tournament
match.
14 year old Jackson who attends the St.Joseph's Convent, St.Andrew's never lost
her confidence and belief in her team as she told CONCACAF media that she
expects her team to go further.
Team Grenada's starting 11 included 2 overseas players 15 year old Jasmine Joseph
and 10 year old Melania Fullerton along with the more experienced members of the
team including Treasher Valcin (HHSS),Judy McIntosh(SMSS) and Samantha
McSween(MDC).
Team Grenada was off to a good start however, Haiti's (#17) Mikerline Saint Felix
found the net in the 5th minute of play and again in the 15th minute.
At half time the score was 9-0 with contributions from Nerilia
Mondesir(9',38',41',42'),Coventina Dumonay (14'),Martine Olivier(28') and Shelsie
Melissa Dacius (34').
Goals from Haiti's (#19) Roseline Eloissaint, Shelsie Melissa Dacius and two from
Lovelie Pierre in the 71st and 84th minutes rounded out 13 goals.
Grenada's U17 head Coach Alister Debellotte was proud of his team's performance
saying, “I thought we fought hard coming to the end and finishing wih 13 goals
against the likes of Haiti, shows that we have some talent, some stamina and we
will move on from there."
The Grenada Football Association has pledged to keep the team in training to
ensure that they become stronger and to increase resources for women's football.
President Cheney Joseph wrote, “The results of last night's game Grenada versus
Haiti has simply confirmed we are on the right path but simply a far way off.
This means more investments in our grassroots and belief in our goals. Our faces of
hope shall remain together as long as I remain your President."
Grenada will take on Canada on Saturday March 5th at 3:30pm at the National
Athletic and Football Stadium in Game day 3 of the CONCACAF U17 Women's
Championship.
