population of 85 colonists
The French colonists could
not afford to anger the
natives, as their survival was
dependant on Furs
3. Government & Political Issues
English had to build a larger and
more professional army and navy to
overcome France who was the
strongest kingdom at the time in
Europe.
England was able to manage by a
state bureaucracy and funded by
higher levels of taxation.
The lightest taxed people in Europe
were the English, who joined
France, and the Dutch were the
most heavily taxed.
The French sailors and officers
could not match the sailing and
combat experience of the British.
France avoided the naval battles and
favored their army better.
