As part of the Coursera #LNV2015 we were tasked with uploading our business concept idea to this platform. This is an annotated presentation to the one that was submitted for credit.

Integrated services to communities quests
1. Integrated Services to
Communities
A holistic approach to reach underserved communities in the interior
of Africa, with literacy, education, training, capacity building and
economic opportunities.
Pan-African Education
Checklist Question 1.
What are you
proposing?
2. • OTHERS with a more limited focus are already doing this in some areas:
• Education Departments (lack funds to supply the need of each community)
• Commercial enterprises (depend on the customers ability to pay)
• NGO´s (excellent programs suffer from interruptions in funds)
• Tuition based schools (most students are from able families, leave out most)
• But all these suffer from the same fault, they only reach communities that
can ALREADY PAY their way. What is needed is a comprehensive
program that will take truly disadvantages communities and work with them
to lift them into lively communities. Then they will be able to support the
services offered to them.

Question 3. Initial target customers. One
African country was interested in this
system as they would then target other
schools in urban settings with the same
approach.
All of these on this list are both competition and business
opportunities, however, as noted they fail to reach those
communities removed from the mainstream. Be it because of
inaccessibility, economically disadvantaged, other factors.
3. Zambia
• In 2007-2009 we had advanced to the point that the service described here
had strong interest from certain government quarters.
• Once Zambia is started along these lines, other surrounding countries from
the same language family, can join-in on centralized resource sharing and
accountability, delivery methods and interventions.
• During this period technology companies had expressed strong interest in
partnering with government and had developed the education management
systems needed. Since then, there have been more improvements in
technology.
Pan-African Education
Question 4. The question of where is very
important as the more homogenous a group
of communities are, the more scalability
achieved. Initially envisioned as starting with
similar official language countries (English)
and the family of local languages: Bantu
based see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantu_language
s
Question 5. The points on this slide deal
with question 5, as a system such as
proposed has to involve the local
countrys´ government as enabler and part
of marketing. Other service providers can
use platform and also be part of marketing
the system as a whole.
Q. 6. On how to develop, produce and deliver the offering. There are many tools available to
implement at least part of the system especially in education some for free. Other work at
country level has been going on and can be incorporated. The biggest obstacle is delivery
and centralized databases and IT management. But also very doable.
4. People Groups and Urban Schools
• Once certain language groups are onboard and well funcitioning; the system
can continue to expand into other people groups.
• The same systems used to reach truly disadvantaged communities will be
used by schools systems in urban settings, to provide education and training.
• The best way to protect the investments made in such a system is to continue
to expand it, making more communities connected and able to buy the
protections afforded a combined purchasing power.
Pan-African Education
These points here deal with Qs 8, 9, and 10. The best way to protect this investment is to continue to
expand into more communities, as a way to protect it, capture value and expand the offering.
5. Achieving Sustainability
• As communities develop, they will take a growing share of the cost of
services to the point of paying for it themselves.
• Shared costs and savings, from the envisioned system makes it possible to
continue to expand to more communities.
• Governments will see the benefit of cost reductions and also participate in
financial support.
• Communities will enter new economic realities that will makes them
sustainable, educated and participatory at all levels of society.
Pan-African Education
These points also dovetail into the issues raised by Qs 8,9 and 10. As more communities become part of the
system other offerings can be included and other services offered at an affordable price. Both expanding the
offering and protecting from competition.
6. How will you benefit?
• At a time of tight fiscal budgets in most countries of the world, this kind of
intervention will help developed economies; as they will have more willing
customers able to afford the purchases they need. Be it equipment, services
or products, that all developing countries need.
• Economically empowered and/or educated communities will be more stable
and socially responsible communities.
• Livelyhoods and culture protected by their own means also benefit you.
Pan-African Education
Q8 How will you capture value? While the focus on the MOOC LNV2015 has been on this question to capture value as a personal reward, I wanted to include
the idea that value capturing is a benefit that extends beyond these communities and countries. It expands into the develop world as empowered communities
will be purchasing and using services from the developed world. So, if you are alive and breathing you too will se a benefit from this involvement, albeit perhaps
by keeping your job?
7. What is needed today?
• Office space and financial support to find suitable partners.
• Financial support for a pilot Project in a limited number of communities.
• Legal and diplomatic support to approach more governments in Africa.
• Expertise to detail (once more) the equipment needed locally.
Pan-African Education
I did not submit a crowdfunding project as there is need to include others in the scope
of this work of early development. Did not think the timing was right.
Q7 What additional resources do you need? Currently working on
identifying others that can partner on this project.
8. Your talents, influence and money.
• If this narrative is of interest to you and want to help get it to an actionable
reality, do not hesitate to contact me.
• We have registered a non-profit corporation in Zambia.
• Need to get a non-profit established in USA and/or EU.
• To truly achieve sustainability in these communites, it may take a generation.
