4. Born on March 21, 1960 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the son of Neide Senna and
Milton Da Silva, he was the second of two more brothers: Viviane Senna and
Leonardo Senna. The house where he spent the first four years of his life had
belonged to João Senna, his maternal grandfather,
His father once said that he never planned or dreamed that his son would
become a racing driver, even though he built a go kart for Ayrton, in six months,
the kart was equipped with disc brakes and an engine e from a sugar cane
chopper that allowed him to reach a speed of up to 60 km / h. In the beginning,
it was even one more game for his restless and restless son; the kart was
therefore going to be a toy. An alternative to the bicycles and the pedal cars
used by the children at that time, and which, however, with the passage of time
Ayrton was taking a liking to and in which it was very frequent to see him run.
In 1978 he came to Europe to run the world karting championship, in his time in
karting he learned everything he needed to know to race in Formula 1. He had
also become an excellent driver in the rain. In 1981 Senna moved to England to
start his single seater career. Ayrton says that in his karting years he learned
the things that were necessary to race in formula 1, one time he had a karting
race at rain and he had a very bad race, in that moment he decided to improve
his driving in wet conditions and in sometimes he didn't eat because he was
trying to improve his driving on wet conditions.
First steps
5. In 1983 he raced at the British Formula 3
Championship with the West Surrey Racing
team. Senna dominated the first half of the
season, but suddenly Martin Brundle, who
was driving a similar car for Eddie Jordan
Racing, closed the gap in the second half of
the championship. Ayrton won the title in
the final round at Thruxton after a close and
sometimes bitter battle.10 In November of
the same year, he triumphed at the opening
of the Macau F3 Grand Prix with Teddy
Yip's Theodore Racing Team.On that time
he was already observed by Frank
Williams, who would be his last team boss
in Formula 1 during 1994
The F3 days and the first steps to formula 1
6. Senna attracted the attention of Formula 1 teams like Williams, McLaren,
Brabham and Toleman, for which he conducted pre-season tests.
Williams had already their drivers for 1984, McLaren was there a
vacancy for the 1984 season due to the fact that their situation had
already been resolved previously (the Rosberg-Laffite couple was
confirmed for Williams team and on the other hand, that of Lauda-Prost
for the team from Mclaren). Later, his name was linked to the second
seat of Brabham, but the number one driver of that team was the two-
time world champion Nelson Piquet, also Brazilian, but he preferred his
friend Roberto Moreno, while the sponsor Parmalat who sponsored
Brabham wanted a Italian driver, so Ayrton’s attempt to enter "through
the front door" failed. His only option was to join Toleman, a relatively
new team, to replace Derek Warwick. Venezuelan Johnny Cecotto would
be his teammate around that time.
In 1984, racing for Toleman he demonstrated to be a very good and
talented driver making two podiums one of them on the Monaco Grand
Prix with an intense rain. In 1985 he signed for Lotus, Lotus had won
many championships and races. His First win came in Estoril Portugal,
the race was in wet conditions, he lapped every driver minus the second
place driver, That was his first career win and the second came in
belgium, in 86 he had some battles with the big stars Like Nigel Mansell,
they both had an intense battle in the grand prix from Spain.
