Gerhardt Jooste is a qualified attorney, property developer and entrepreneur with 22 years experience in all aspects of real estate
development, investment and marketing. Gerhardt was involved with various award-winning commercial and residential developments.
3. Atterbury – AttFund – Attacq
In 1998, Gerhardt Jooste & Martin Venter started a law practice in
Stellenbosch and acquired the development rights to a variety of
properties in the Western Cape.
Soon afterwards Gerhardt & Martin were approached by Francois
Van Niekerk and Louis Van Der Watt to start with them a new
company: Atterbury Cape.
In 1999 Martin Venter decided resign and pursue his dream to
develop an international status polo estate and the successful Val
De Vie Estate in Paarl was established.
The Atterbury Group joined forces with well-known developers
Neno Haasbroek and Louis Norval to establish AttFund in 2002
which was sold to Hyprop Ltd investments in 2011 for R9 Billion.
Attacq was formed in 2005 and listed on the Main Board of the
JSE in 2013 for R13.35 Billion.
Gerhardt Jooste was the CEO of Atterbury Cape for 9 years and
during this time he was involved with major commercial and
residential developments including the 30 000 m2 Tygerberg
Office Park, Admiral Island, Somerset Value Mart, Willowbridge
Centre, Kanonberg Estate, Bella Rosa Village, Greenville Estate
and La Verona, De Bron Pick `n Pay centre and Kraaibosch
Estate.

In 2007 Gerhardt Jooste retired as Managing Director
of Atterbury Cape and at request of Atterbury stayed
involved with various Atterbury projects.
These projects as well as his shareholding in Attfund
and Attacq formed the foundation on which he later
built the Prosperito Group of Companies

Kanonberg Lifestyle Estate and the mix use
development Bella Rosa, Gerhardt implemented his
ultimate dream to develop a village based on the “7
life cycles of Shakespeare” and the development
principles in the book “Pattern Language by
Christopher Alexander”.
Gerhardt started in 2005 with the process of rezoning
and planning based on years of research and visiting
old villages around the world.
The dream took shape in the development of
Nooitgedacht Village in Stellenbosch and in 2019 it
was recognized as the best mix use development in

Gerhardt Jooste’s involvement in other strategic
investments include developments and redevelopments in
both the Western Cape and Gauteng through Bergshoop
Trust and Bergshoop Investment.
43. Francois Van Niekerk, one of the founders of Atterbury,
setup the Mergon Foundation. The foundation is funding
over 130 strategic, impactful initiatives in South Africa.

Gerhardt Jooste’s life and motivated him to set up
community projects connected to all the developments he
