CITY OF ATLANTA, Atlanta, GA – Commissioner, Parks & Recreation Dept., June 2010-May 2014
Led a nationally-accredited department of 300+ full-time and 200+ seasonal employees, more
than 100 parks and 50 facilities, and an annual budget of $30+ million.
Developed and implemented an integrated program plan to open 16 closed recreation
centers, enhance youth development programming and update IT & security infrastructure.
Increased annual after-school enrollment from 400 to more than 1000.
Increased percent of residents living within ½-mile of a park from 50% to 65% through
key acquisitions and creative partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and govt. agencies.
Reduced department electricity consumption by 20% and water use by more than 50%,
resulting in annual savings of more than $2.5 million.
Implemented a unified asset management and work order system that shortened the routine

Increased operating budget from $200,000 to more than $500,000 in 3 years; oversaw creation of
$200,000 + reserve fund. Launched capital improvement program. Expanded staff from 2 full-
time and 2 part-time positions to 7 full-time and 1 part-time positions.
Performed situational assessment focused on program delivery, staff alignment and
allocation of financial and volunteer resources.
Developed and implemented strategic plan to restructure all programs to align behind a
strategic vision of engaging geographically and ethnically diverse clientele focused on
small to mid-size capital improvements and advocacy.
Created a network of more than 60 “friends-of-the-park” groups to foster community
engagement, facilitate improvements in individual parks and advocate for parks citywide.
