Chapter 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Thischapter presents the research materials that will be used in the study entitled The
Awareness of the BEED Students on the Implementation of Hybrid Learning in Academic Year 2022-
2023. In this chapter, research design, research environment, respondents and sampling procedures,
research instruments and their validity, data gathering process, and statistics are discussed.
Research Design
In this study, the researcher applied a descriptive-correlational design. Using a descriptive
design, this study described the respondents' profiles, independent variables, and student
performance. As a result, it was a correlational design since it correlated the two variables. This meant
that it only determined The Awareness of the BEED Students on the Implementation of Hybrid Learning
at St. Peter’s College, Iligan City.
Research Environment
The private school St. Peter's College was founded in 1952 and is located on Sabayle Street,
Barangay Saray, Iligan City. The school now provides junior high, senior high, and college programs. Both
academic and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) tracks are available in the senior high school
division. College students can also pursue undergraduate degrees in criminology, engineering, computer
science, the arts and sciences, business administration, and education. The aforementioned institution
contains lecture halls and offers technology for audio-visual presentations during class discussions. The
school also has various facilities, such as a chemistry lab, drawing and engineering rooms, criminology
lab, martial arts lab, computer room, voice lab, and an AVR (Audio-Visual Room). The Commission on
Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) both recognize St. Peter's College
and its programs. St. Peter's College has served the educational requirements of the people of Iligan City
and the neighbouring municipalities of Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Misamis Oriental, and
Occidental, and Zamboanga Del Norte and Sur ever since it first opened its doors in 1952. The interview
and survey were conducted by researchers using internet resources. Due to the pandemic, the school
decided to implement online instruction. St. Peter's College uses the Moodle program as a tool for
online instruction. Both synchronous and asynchronous teaching techniques were employed by the
instructors to deliver the lessons.
Respondents and Sampling Procedures
The participants in this study were specifically BEED undergraduates, such as working students,
and scholarship grantees at St. Peter’s College who were enrolled in the College of Education. Before
conducting the survey, the researcher made instructions on how to fill out the questionnaire. These
students served as respondents to the study. The target population for this study was College of
Education students at St. Peter’s College.
2.
Since the studyonly focused on the students who are having their hybrid learning, a total of 50
College of Education students were the respondents of the said study. The researchers used simple
random sampling to choose the respondents. According to Lauren Thomas (2020), a simple random
sample is a randomly selected subset of a population. Each person in the population has the same
chance of being selected using this sampling technique. This technique is the simplest of all probability
sampling techniques because it only includes one random selection and requires little prior population
knowledge. Any research conducted on this sample should have excellent internal and external validity
because it uses randomization. Since the study was focused on the awareness of the BEED students on
the implementation of hybrid learning at Saint Peter's College, Iligan City, using simple random sampling
technique, the researchers carefully identified and selected the respondents of the study; these are the
students who were enrolled in the BEED program. Simple random sampling is most effective when
researching a small population that is simple to sample, or when you have plenty of time and resources
to dedicate to your research.
Research Instrument and Its Validity
In this study, 30 copies of survey questionnaires were used with (10) questions to measure (a)
the effectiveness of hybrid learning implementation among respondents with 10 questions, and another
30 copies were used for evaluating (b) the impact of student performance on the implementation of
hybrid learning.
Data Gathering Procedure
Researchers collected data by interviewing and asking selected students of the College of
Education for S.Y. 2022-2023 to complete survey questionnaires. The researchers explained the
questions to the respondents in the vernacular to help them understand the questions in the event that
they found them difficult to comprehend. This also ensured an honest and truthful answer from the
respondents. After collecting all the responses to the questionnaires, the data became ready for
analysis.
Statistical Treatment
After the data gathering, all the data will be evaluate to summarize the responses of the
selected respondents in education students. The data requirements of this study will be analysed
statistically.
Frequency and Percentage. This will be used to check the Percentage of the strategies of
education students on hybrid learning.
Weighted Mean – this will be used to determine the total average of the three factors that
strategy of education students’ on hybrid learning, namely; ways, deal and approach.
Chi-Square and Spearman Correlation – this will be used to test the significant relationships
between the dependent variable and independent variables.
