WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN B&C?
I joined Badenoch & Clark’s graduate scheme in
August 2006. I initially applied to make my Dad
happy as he told me I hadn’t applied for enough
jobs! I originally had my heart set on another
position, but from the moment I walked into the
assessment centre, everything changed and I knew I
wanted to work at Badenoch & Clark!
DESCRIBE YOUR B&C CAREER JOURNEY
I joined as a consultant with no prior experience,
but have since worked across all three divisions at
Badenoch & Clark: Professional Services (recruiting
for in-house lawyers); the Public Sector (working
for the local government team, recruiting revenues
and benefits officers) and Commerce & Industry
(recruiting interim finance professionals). I now
manage a team of six temporary and permanent
consultants in the legal division.
BEST THING ABOUT B&C?
The people. After speaking to friends, both in
and out of the recruitment industry, I’ve come to
realise that the culture at B&C is definitely unique.
Also, I must say that our training and development
opportunities are excellent.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT
Being the highest biller within the Accountancy
& Finance division in 2011 and being promoted to
manager in 2014.

Fraser Turnbull

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN B&C?
I joined Badenoch & Clark in August 2007 for
the opportunity to work in a blue chip, multi-site
recruitment company – bursting with professional
recruitment specialists.
DESCRIBE YOUR B&C CAREER JOURNEY
I started in 2007 as a consultant, recruiting mid-level
solicitors across Scotland on a permanent basis. I
built this function from the ground up until the global
financial crisis led me to work in and eventually
lead, the interim Public Sector team. In 2010 I
launched a permanent placement legal recruitment
function for our only international office at the time,
Badenoch & Clark Luxembourg. I was based for three
years in our European centre, where I established
and grew the recruitment service line, while
also taking part in training our new international
colleagues on the ‘B&C DNA’. In 2013, I returned to
Scotland to focus on growing the legal recruitment
service locally. In June 2015 I was promoted to
Manager, cementing my position as a member of the
wider Scottish leadership team and UK management
function.
BEST THING ABOUT B&C?
My passionate and professional colleagues. The
support and encouragement the B&C leaders
provide for all (well, the majority) of my ideas and
the opportunity to take ownership of my own career
direction, makes Badenoch & Clark an exceptional
place to work.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT
Achieving the ‘biggest ever single fee’ in both
Luxembourg and Scotland. These are two records
I still hold for offices which have been operating
respectively for well over 15 years! Oh and being
invited to represent B&C at the Queen’s Garden Party
in Scotland.

Ben Searls
Associate Director, Accounting & Finance
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN B&C?
I joined B&C after graduating from Nottingham
University in 2004. Many of my friends were already
working in the recruitment sector, but predominantly
in large impersonal corporates which didn’t interest
me. I researched the market and selected five
companies to approach. B&C was of particular
interest to me as they were described by their clients
and candidates as a “big boutique”. I was also
attracted by B&C’s investment in people.
DESCRIBE YOUR B&C CAREER JOURNEY
Having started my recruitment career on a junior
temp desk, which I think is an excellent grounding,
I was promoted to Senior Consultant (temporary).
I was eager to develop my skill set and asked to
start a new permanent offering to our East Midlands
practice. Having gained promotion to Principal
Consultant (permanent), I took the opportunity to
move closer to my original home (Brighton) – taking
my first step into management in running the
London Qualified Permanent Accounting & Finance
team. I enjoyed every second of the next five years;
developing my leadership skills and billing over
£200k in the Retail/FMCG sector. After those five
years I put together a business plan which identified
an opportunity to open a new office in Brighton.
I am currently Associate Director and am fortunate
enough to be working with three exceptional Senior
Managers.

Simon Crichton

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU JOIN B&C?
I joined Badenoch & Clark in January 2007, after
being attracted to their ambition as a market leader
in recruitment, along with their focus on quality
people. I bought into the company culture of
integrity, team spirit and entrepreneurship; I really
liked B&C’s emphasis on strong leadership. I wanted
to get better and the culture put the pressure on the
Manager to be as good as they could be, rather than
all of the pressure being on the consultant to bill.
DESCRIBE YOUR B&C CAREER JOURNEY
Early in my career my mentor and boss taught me
that less is more and to specialise, even when I
wasn’t being forced to. So I chose to work with
high-end project staff within Central Government
for an IT recruitment brand; after a rocky start
and applying myself for six months, my hard work
paid off and I became sales person of the year, a
top biller and a Manager. I moved to B&C to learn
more and to develop my skills as a leader. Again, I
specialised within the Public Sector and worked hard
to market B&C as experts in this field. I believe all
my people should be specialists and be able to talk
with authority in their chosen markets. I have been
instrumental in structuring our Public Sector division
to work in vertical markets (NHS, Local Government,
Housing) but with specialist areas underneath
(Finance, IT). B&C’s integrity and professionalism,
high value network and quality people really set us
apart from our competitors.
BEST THING ABOUT B&C?
Strong leadership and a lot of talented people.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT
It’s a three-way tie: winning sales person of the
year (2004) from a standing start; doubling £GP/
contribution and winning Manager of the year
(2009), with my consultants taking the top three
billing slots; taking over as head of the Public Sector
(2014) and smashing budget year one.
WHAT KEEPS YOU AT B&C?
The incredible future potential; the job is only half
done! Additionally, the opportunity to link in with the
other Adecco Group brands is huge.
INTERESTING FACT
My Grandfather was a famous film director and I am
a hobby obsessive.
