3. AUTOSUGGESTION
Autosuggestion is an instrument that we possess at birth. In this force, resides a
marvelous and incalculable power. Knowledge of this force is useful to each one of
us, but it is peculiarly indispensable- to doctors, magistrates, lawyers, and to those
engaged in the work of education.
By knowing how to practise it consciously it is possible to guide into the right path
those who had a tendency to take the wrong one.
6. WILL AND IMAGINATION
“I could not help it, something impelled me, it was stronger than I.”
“Will” is defined as “The faculty of freely determining certain acts”.
This „will‟ that we claim so proudly, always yields the imagination.
Notice that your will is „powerless‟ to make you advance; if you imagine that you cannot, it‟s
absolutely impossible for you to do so.
Vertigo is entirely caused by the picture we make in our minds that we are going to fall. This
picture transforms itself immediately into fact in spite of all the efforts of our will, and the
more violent these efforts are, the quicker is the opposite to the desired result brought about.
In each of these conflicts it is always the imagination which gains the victory over the
will, without any exception.
„Are we free to act as we like?‟We only cease to be puppets when we have learned to guide
our imagination.
7. SUGGESTION AND AUTOSUGGESTION
Suggestion may be defined as “the act of imposing an idea on the brain of another”
Suggestion does not indeed exist by itself except on the sine qua non condition of transforming itself into
autosuggestion in the subject. This latter word may be defined as “the implanting of an idea in oneself by
oneself.”
You may make a suggestion to someone; if the unconscious of the latter does not accept the suggestion, if it
has not, as it were, digested it, in order to transform it into autosuggestion, it produces no result.
„Do we make suggestions or autosuggestions?‟
Autosuggestion can be defined as, the influence of the imagination upon the moral and physical being of
mankind.
The process by which a person induces self-acceptance of an opinion, belief, or plan of action
8. THE CONSCIOUS SELF
AND THE
UNCONSCIOUS SELF
Two absolutely distinct selves exist within us. Both are intelligent, but while
one is conscious the other is unconscious. For this reason the existence of
the latter generally escapes notice.
Conscious Unconscious
♦Somnambulist Possessed of a very unreliable Marvelous and impeccable memory
♦Drunkard memory Registers without our knowledge
the smallest events
Accepts with unreasoning docility
what it is told
9. WILL, IMAGINATION, AUTOSUGGESTION, SUBCONSCIOUS
♦When the will and the imagination are antagonistic, it is always the imagination which
wins, without any exception.
♦In the conflict between the will and the imagination, the force of the imagination is in
direct ratio to the square of the will.
♦When the will and the imagination are in agreement, one does not add to the other, but
one is multiplied by the other.
♦The imagination can be directed
10. SUBCONCIOUS
The subconscious mind controls all the natural functions of the body, all the involuntary
actions, and all those actions of mind and body that continue their natural movements without
direction from the will.
It perpetuates characteristics, traits, and qualities that are peculiar to individuals, species and
races. What is called heredity therefore is altogether a subconscious process. The same is true of
what is called second nature. Whenever anything has been repeated a sufficient number of times
to have become habitual, it becomes second nature, or rather a subconscious action.
Conscious action may become a subconscious action without repetition, and thus becomes second
nature almost at once. It submits readily to almost any kind of training, and will do practically
anything that it is directed to do, whether the thing is to our advantage or not.
11. SUBCONCIOUS
Concerning the general possibilities of the subconscious, we should remember that every faculty
has a subconscious side, and that it becomes larger and more competent as this subconscious side
is developed.
Every cell in the body has a subconscious side, and therefore, if the subconscious side of the
personality were developed, we can realize what improvement would become possible in that
field.
People fail to improve along any line is because their desires or efforts for improvement are not
sufficiently deep and strong to become unconscious processes.
12. USE OF AUTOSUGGESTION
CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTIONS
Whereas we constantly give ourselves unconscious
autosuggestions, all we have to do is to give ourselves
conscious ones
13. USE OF AUTOSUGGESTION
CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTIONS
DIRECTING ATTENTION
Give attention to the way we feel. The way we feel determines largely what our finer forces are to be
and how they are to act
We need to train ourselves to feel the way we want by directing our attention to something desirable.
We got to have full control over our feelings that we can always feel the way we want to feel, no
matter what the circumstances may be.
This is possible because all the finer forces are controlled by feeling.
14. USE OF AUTOSUGGESTION
CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTIONS
DESIRE & IDEA
Your ability, your capacity to concentrate, burning obsession.
Be of positive autosuggestion
Emotions, feel your desire
Within the realms of reality
Focus on your imaginative power; do not let your will impose its own view on positive ideas.
15. USE OF AUTOSUGGESTION
CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTIONS
MEDITATION
"Essentially when you spend a lot of time meditating, the brain shows a pattern of feeling safe in the
world and more comfortable in approaching people and situations, and less vigilant and afraid, which is
more associated with the right hemisphere," Prof. Jon Kabat-Zinn
SOUND/ MUSIC
The deeper you explore the mysteries of life, the more you will find that its whole secret is hidden in
words
Sound allows us to merge with our soul, our limitless supply of energy and healing, and our totality.
By working with music you can easily tap into the pure and unmatched subconscious power of sound
and establish a direct connection with your soul.
16. USE OF AUTOSUGGESTION
CONSCIOUS AUTOSUGGESTIONS
SPIRITUALITY
♦It is not what we consciously want to happen in our life that does happen--it is what we
believe to be TRUE of ourselves and others deep in our subconscious mind.
♦Whatever we believe to be true deep in our heart, we unknowingly pray for „unguarded
moments‟
♦What we believe to be true of others, we also believe to be true of ourselves.
♦Emotionally charged statement, forceful statement, categorical pronouncement, fused
with a strong feeling lead to „forceful statement, a categorical pronouncement, fused with
a strong feeling often lead to „self-fulfilled prophesy‟.
•Inferiority complexes
•Ailment
17. Master
SELF
♦Through regular autosuggestion, you can change any belief recorded in
your subconscious mind, which in turn will change the external condition.
♦Unlearn past imperfect subconscious training
♦Do not allow will and the imagination to be antagonistic
♦What we hear, see, think, and learn can become second nature
♦Unconscious processes need deep felt desire
♦Give good autosuggestions at any point of contact
