7. - British antarctic territory, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands are research
bases and only have the population of the station staff.
- British Indian Ocean Territory is a military base of the USA with no permanent
civilian population.
- Akrotiri and Dhekelia are military bases within Cyprus. It has a population of 7,000
however it’s only open for Cypriotes to live there.
- Cayman and Bermuda have half the population of the UKOT
- Pitcairn island has the smallest population of 49 (settled by the Mutiny on the
Bounty)
- Gibraltar is the smallest land mass

8. - The Queen is the head of state for the UKOT. In her reign she has travelled to every of
the UKOT at least once.
GOVERNORS
- The Queen appoints a governor to the UKOTs that have a permanent population. The
appointments are based on advice from the UK government that communicates with
each UKOT for their advice on the next governor.
- The governor hold executive powers of the monarch.
- The governors are responsible for liaising with the UK government, ceremonial duties,
appointing heads of government and senior political positions. If have one the running
of parliament

- If there is no permanent population then a commissioner is appointed with all
the same responsibilities and power of a governor

2002
Simply explained.
This act made all the UKOTs population expect Cyprus military base become
British citizens and full British citizens rights.
For example they can enter and leave the UK without any checks.
They can study in the UK, get a job and buy property within the UK.
They are given under this act the same passport as Uk residents and are treated
the same when applying for a visa
This act also made the UKOTs EU citizens and full member rights of the EU.
11. - Chagos and its surrounding island is a UK
overseas Territory with no population.
- Between 1968 and 1973 the UK at the request of
the USA government depopulated the island.
The population didn’t have the right to return.
In addition they were compensated by the
British government in 1972 of 650,000 pounds.
The people were moved to a nearby island
- The USA have a naval base on the islands and
station all types of naval boats.
- The USA government rent the islands from the
UK government, sum is unknown.
- The people have been protesting to the right of
return and the right to settle the islands. So far
they have not been given any rights.
