GEAR PLANING
Chip-breaking process where gears are planed using cutters shaped like the tooth space.
The process
The rack form cutting tool is moved back and forth along the axial gear periphery while the tool
slowly moves towards the center until the gear teeth form is achieved. The tool distance to the axis is
maintained while the tool continues to oscillate and move along the workpiece tangent while the
workpiece is slowly rotated.
