CLINICAL SKILLS
 Knowledge of the nursing process and the variable scope of practice in different clinical
environments. Familiarity with vital signs, disorders, and conditions in various populations.

 Effective nursing care of 70 middle school children and 15 counselors on 2- 4- day camping trips,
as the only health professional present. Physical assessment, triage, vital signs, administration of
medication by mouth and trans-dermal Daytrana patch; supervision of self-care for IM insulin
injection and replacement of insulin pump; wound assessment & care, infection control, inventory
control and ordering of supplies, management of nursing office, documentation, health education.
 Head-to-toe physical assessment, vital signs, total care in a hospital setting
 Endo-tracheal suctioning, insertion and monitoring of indwelling catheter
 Insulin administration, finger stick testing, monitoring of blood glucose control, supervision of
self-administration
 Medication administration by mouth, GT tube (electronic pump & gravity infusion); peripheral
IV (primary and piggyback), intramuscular and subcutaneous injection, trans-dermal patch
 Administration of influenza and pneumococcal vaccine to adults and children over 6 years old
 Interdisciplinary collaboration, client teaching and advocacy, prioritization of care, time
management, development and documentation of care plans
 IV Therapy initiation and monitoring of electronic and gravity infusion
 Discharge planning, teaching, and group presentations
 Manual charting and electronic health records
 Client interaction) in pediatric, psychiatric, substance abuse, medical-surgical, maternity, long-term
care, rehabilitation, school nursing, adult daycare, and neurological units
 Observation and documentation in ICU, OR, dialysis, outpatient hospital clinics, triage, ED units
