Children in Nature Month in effect in October
October 7, 2016
DOVER, DE --- A proclamation declaring October as “Children in Nature Month” by
Governor Jack Markell was signed in 2014. The Delaware Children in Nature Coalition
administered by DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation, has gathered outdoor
programs and activities designed to get children all across Delaware to participate outdoors
and in nature.
Many of the events are occurring in the State Parks, such as Alapocas Run: Intro to Rock
Climbing on October 15 and Boo at the Zoo on October 21 and 22 at Brandywine Zoo. In
addition is a free entrance day for families on October 18 at the Bombay Hook National
Wildlife Refuge and the Delaware Nature Society, Family Nature Hike on October 23. A
complete list of programs can be found on www.delawareCIN.org.
The goal of this initiative is to engage children with their surroundings by providing
meaningful outdoors experiences and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The Delaware Children in Nature Coalition sees Delaware as a leader in environmental
education for Delaware’s children. The coalition welcomes the community; businesses and
other organizations to participate in our state-wide initiative to get children outdoors.
