Letter from the Desk
of the Principal
Esteemed Faculty, Parents & Students,
Divine Providence has blessed us with another academic year of 2011 -
2012 for St. John Vianney and what a year it has been! We were a little
indulged with a later start than usual, classes beginning on the 6th of September, yet that did not stop us from getting
into the swing of things!
Already in the first month we were honored with and ready for the great Feast Day of St. Michael! A
consolation indeed to see the students involved in Schola, Choir, and Service of the altar recalling Holy Michael in his
fight against Satan. After the Sung Mass the day continued with All Day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in honor
of: 1) Victory over the Church0s internal and external enemies, 2) Conversion of Rome and Bishops, 3) Sanctification
of Priests and candidates for priesthood, and 4) awakening of numerous vocations!
Let us then continue with October which provided Sts. John Vianney, Robert Bellarmine, Holy Family
Academies and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart Novitiate with the opportunity of a coordinated uniform effort in storming
Heaven above! Thus in this moment of ours in the midst of the Rosary Crusade what better day than that of the Feast
of the Holy Rosary and better place than that of the Blessed Mother0s shrine, Assumption Chapel (locally known as
Grasshopper Chapel) in Cold Spring dating back to 1877! There a small procession of priests, sisters, teachers, some
170 students and 50 or so faithful processed around the grounds bearing Our Lady with pride whilst simultaneously
asking her continued intercession that the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart come soon! However, rest assured that our
Holy Rosaries did not stop there with just a procession. Rather, what a delight to see that they likewise continue daily
throughout the school week both before and after school since February in an attempt to intensify our Crusade for the
Immaculate Heart!
Furthermore, the school year has already unfolded with great results and opportunities as we have seen at the
spiritual level, now let us direct our attention to temporal matters. Results manifest on different levels. First consider
the greater stability for our institution through our staff who now have a two story house to call their own in
Browerville, giving comfort to four men away from home. Results manifested by our students who again have
outperformed both the students of Long Prairie and the state of Minnesota with an average ACT score of 23.3 for the
end of the Academic Year of 2011 and 23.8 for the Fall of 2011, as opposed to the Long Prairie Public High School0s
22.9 and MN0s 22.9 and the National AVG was a mere 21.1!
Lastly let us direct and rest our thoughts and prayers with the Talley family in the loss of their son Aaron
Joseph who likewise was with us for both his 8th and 11th grade years! What a consolation it is to see the fruits of
the sacrifices made for Catholic Education manifest via generous souls who carry their faith with them into the world as
a light in darkness undimmed! In the midst of Our Rosary Crusade Divine Providence has granted all of us a model of
fidelity, despite the world, to be in it and not of it! He was a son of the BVM, I only regret that we have not found his
poem written to her. On that note let us ask Our Lady of the Rosary to not only help Aaron RIP+ but also to pray for
us sinners now and at the hour of our death1

REQUIEM OF A MARINE
Twenty-One rounds a last salute,
Bursting from rifle loud,
Shows without a doubt or dispute,
America stands proud.
The Bugle sounds its mournful cry,
With taps the air does flow,
His eagle, globe, and anchor high,
To proudly shine and glow.
Flag is taken with faces grim,
Off his coffin to fold,
To a triangle neat and trim,
For family to keep hold.
Did you retire and leave in peace?
Or did you die at war?
Your memory will never cease,
In our beloved Corps.
Your combat boots are old and worn,
Your cammies met with stain,
But in Our Corps, new troops are born,
They will be worn again.
No longer wear your dress in blue,
Be proud of all achieved,
Marine! Rest will now, because you...
Stand properly relieved.
Written by our Veteran,
Corporal Aaron Talley
May 16, 1987
April 01, 2012
Time is short from life to the grave,
But what do most men give?
His heart to countries' what he gave,
An honored life to live.
A noble sacrifice to make,
But made with what to gain?
Made for us and our freedom's sake,
No matter what the pain.
A chosen few come to this call,
The country's few and brave,
With hearts of valor, guts, and gall,
Our independence save.
Freedom is fought but never free,
A sacrifice is laid,
Patriots who neither fell or stray,
And with their lives have paid.
Out from the few who dress in green,
Out from our nation's best,
Comes a United States Marine,
To sleep eternal rest.
Handed down from tradition past,
Rise the Red White and Blue,
Solemnly taken to half mast,
For one who was so true.
Then Says the preacher "Let us Pray"
"Depart now from this strife,
That soul may go up and away,
To everlasting life."

Aaron Joseph Talley was born on
May 16, 1987 in Waukegan, IL to
John and Roxanna (Darling) Talley.
He attended school at St. John
Vianney in Long Prairie, and
completed his GED. Aaron then
enlisted into the United States
Marine Corps, and served with the
Marine Security Guard, providing
security at U.S. Embassies in
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and
Denmark. His latest assignment
was with the Brig Company at
Miramar Naval Base in San Diego,
CA. He loved the 0Corps1 and was
highly valued for his skills and
motivation to perform at the
highest level.
Aaron was devoted and strong in
his Catholic faith, worked hard in
his studies as well as with his
physical conditioning. He enjoyed
running and martial
arts. Aaron also played
the guitar and wrote
poetry. He was a
beloved and devoted
brother, and a favorite
with his cousins, and
looked forward to his
family gatherings.
Aaron was seldom seen
without a smile on his
face, and a ready
laugh.

  • 1. 2011-2012 18910 Ellipse Loop Long Prairie, MN 56347 1
  • 2. Letter from the Desk of the Principal Esteemed Faculty, Parents & Students, Divine Providence has blessed us with another academic year of 2011 - 2012 for St. John Vianney and what a year it has been! We were a little indulged with a later start than usual, classes beginning on the 6th of September, yet that did not stop us from getting into the swing of things! Already in the first month we were honored with and ready for the great Feast Day of St. Michael! A consolation indeed to see the students involved in Schola, Choir, and Service of the altar recalling Holy Michael in his fight against Satan. After the Sung Mass the day continued with All Day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in honor of: 1) Victory over the Church0s internal and external enemies, 2) Conversion of Rome and Bishops, 3) Sanctification of Priests and candidates for priesthood, and 4) awakening of numerous vocations! Let us then continue with October which provided Sts. John Vianney, Robert Bellarmine, Holy Family Academies and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart Novitiate with the opportunity of a coordinated uniform effort in storming Heaven above! Thus in this moment of ours in the midst of the Rosary Crusade what better day than that of the Feast of the Holy Rosary and better place than that of the Blessed Mother0s shrine, Assumption Chapel (locally known as Grasshopper Chapel) in Cold Spring dating back to 1877! There a small procession of priests, sisters, teachers, some 170 students and 50 or so faithful processed around the grounds bearing Our Lady with pride whilst simultaneously asking her continued intercession that the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart come soon! However, rest assured that our Holy Rosaries did not stop there with just a procession. Rather, what a delight to see that they likewise continue daily throughout the school week both before and after school since February in an attempt to intensify our Crusade for the Immaculate Heart! Furthermore, the school year has already unfolded with great results and opportunities as we have seen at the spiritual level, now let us direct our attention to temporal matters. Results manifest on different levels. First consider the greater stability for our institution through our staff who now have a two story house to call their own in Browerville, giving comfort to four men away from home. Results manifested by our students who again have outperformed both the students of Long Prairie and the state of Minnesota with an average ACT score of 23.3 for the end of the Academic Year of 2011 and 23.8 for the Fall of 2011, as opposed to the Long Prairie Public High School0s 22.9 and MN0s 22.9 and the National AVG was a mere 21.1! Lastly let us direct and rest our thoughts and prayers with the Talley family in the loss of their son Aaron Joseph who likewise was with us for both his 8th and 11th grade years! What a consolation it is to see the fruits of the sacrifices made for Catholic Education manifest via generous souls who carry their faith with them into the world as a light in darkness undimmed! In the midst of Our Rosary Crusade Divine Providence has granted all of us a model of fidelity, despite the world, to be in it and not of it! He was a son of the BVM, I only regret that we have not found his poem written to her. On that note let us ask Our Lady of the Rosary to not only help Aaron RIP+ but also to pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death1 In Xto,2

  • 50. REQUIEM OF A MARINE Twenty-One rounds a last salute, Bursting from rifle loud, Shows without a doubt or dispute, America stands proud. The Bugle sounds its mournful cry, With taps the air does flow, His eagle, globe, and anchor high, To proudly shine and glow. Flag is taken with faces grim, Off his coffin to fold, To a triangle neat and trim, For family to keep hold. Did you retire and leave in peace? Or did you die at war? Your memory will never cease, In our beloved Corps. Your combat boots are old and worn, Your cammies met with stain, But in Our Corps, new troops are born, They will be worn again. No longer wear your dress in blue, Be proud of all achieved, Marine! Rest will now, because you... Stand properly relieved. Written by our Veteran, Corporal Aaron Talley May 16, 1987 April 01, 2012 Time is short from life to the grave, But what do most men give? His heart to countries' what he gave, An honored life to live. A noble sacrifice to make, But made with what to gain? Made for us and our freedom's sake, No matter what the pain. A chosen few come to this call, The country's few and brave, With hearts of valor, guts, and gall, Our independence save. Freedom is fought but never free, A sacrifice is laid, Patriots who neither fell or stray, And with their lives have paid. Out from the few who dress in green, Out from our nation's best, Comes a United States Marine, To sleep eternal rest. Handed down from tradition past, Rise the Red White and Blue, Solemnly taken to half mast, For one who was so true. Then Says the preacher "Let us Pray" "Depart now from this strife, That soul may go up and away, To everlasting life." 54
