AUGUST 29, 2011 VOLUME 18 The Shining Beacon We are ‘Love at Work’ in supporting and spreading the truth of Jesus Christ in our witness to all people as we do ministry with children, youth, and adults in the Lambuth neighborhood, University of Memphis, our community, and the world in which we live. Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church “TOGETHER WE WILL” From 2000 until 2004 my son (Kyle) ran under this quote. He played football for Lambuth University during those years. This is the sign that Coach Wallace, Lambuth’s then head football coach used to have his players run under when entering the playing field before home games. 120 players, each person different, from different states, different color of skin, they were different in so many ways. How could 120 people that different come together for one propose. It really was very hard for this unity to happen. Here is how it was done. Every player was asked to be concerned about someone else other than himself. In 2003 I got to see this up close and personal. I happen to be one of those players asked to do that. What I learned from that has helped me so much in my life. When I started to care for someone else before myself, a whole new world was opened up to me. That very world can be seen at Lambuth Memorial Church. So many people helping others before helping themselves. If we all do this, then we truly will be able to make Disciples of Christ and change the world. Together We Will, how awesome is that! Peace, Joey WEDNESDAY FAMILY NIGHTS Just being a part of a congregation that believes Jesus is the Christ, our Savior, the son of God, is a truly helpful experience! Sharing with each other in this spiritual community is also obeying a scriptural requirement.“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another ….” Hebrews 10: 24-25 On September 7, 2011 at 5:45PM we will begin Wednesday Family nights!Individuals and families will come together because they love Jesus and because they want to know more about how to live “in love with God” It may be necessary for you to eat a late lunch, pick up something, or give up your evening meal to get to the church for study. Jesus asks us to put Him first. We hope to have a volunteer that will help us plan occasional meals before our study. We will gather with a Song, ascripture, and a prayer. We will watch a new video called “BECOMING A GOOD SAMARITAN” then we will break into small groups to discuss the topic. PLEASE COME JOIN US. YOU WILL BE BLESSED. NEW NURSERY The nursery has moved to the room across the hall from the youth recreation room downstairs from the Sanctuary. This room will be used for infants through preschool ages. For the present time kindergarteners and older will attend the church service. Volunteers are needed to help in the nursery on Sunday from 10:00 to 11:30AM.
