Dear Interested Community Member,
We appreciate your interest in volunteering with the Fort Hood Area Habitat for Humanity! In
2011, volunteers worked over 7,000 hours, helping wherever a task needed to be accomplished.
We need volunteers at our Restore, which is a building supplies thrift store, open to
the public. Volunteers help the Restore Staff (any time) from Tuesday- Friday from
9a-4:45p and Saturday, 9a-2p. The volunteers help the Restore Manager with
anything from stocking (heavy lifting required), to helping a customer or picking up
donations (Thursday only) from a business or residence.
We are also in need of a Bookkeeper or Accountant, Restore Assistant and office assistant. Board
of Directors and Committee members are needed as well.
Home # 64 will have Groundbreaking and start construction in May 12, 2012. If you
would like to be a volunteer at the home build site in Temple on Wednesday (very
limited), Thursday (very limited), Friday, or Saturday, you are required to call 254-
680-4007 and register.
The following dates are available for volunteering at the Aspen/Paddie home build.
Please note that not all dates may be available when you call to register, please have
some alternate dates in mind. This is a first-come-first-serve work site.

 Please wear closed tipped shoes and the appropriate clothing to our sites.
 On Fridays, you are asked to bring your own lunch. We always have plenty of
water available!
 On Saturday’s lunch is donated to volunteers by our area restaurants, groups,
churches, or organizations.

Build Site Details:
 The site will be open for volunteers on Friday and Saturdays, which provides many
opportunities to get involved.
 Please coordinate/register with the office before going out to the construction
site.
 There will be a safety and instruction briefing at the site upon your arrival,
please be there on time! We highly encourage all build site volunteers to go to
the following link for FREE safety briefings.

We have created these procedures to ensure we can provide a safe site for everyone.
To register you can:
1. Email: habitat@clearwire.net with specific dates in mind, OR
2. Call and talk to Hilda at 254-680-4007. If you leave a message, we will return your call.
(We are closed on Sunday and Monday)
This is a first come, first registered procedure. Please understand we are blessed to
have so many people want to be part of his build. It is amazing! Please be patient, as we
have many calls and emails, and we will get back to everyone as quickly as possible.
 Days will fill up very quickly. This is a 3-4 month build so there are many
opportunities to be involved. We are also looking for site hosts and people to help
pick up lunches.

3.  Please also consider helping by providing and serving lunch. For other
ways to get involved, please contact the Habitat office.
Site Procedures:
 Each time you volunteer at the site, please sign in and out. We do track
volunteer hours.
 The first time volunteers will need to complete a Volunteer Interest Form. The link
can be followed at http://www.forthoodareahabitat.org, on the “Get Involved”
tab. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY. Print, complete, and bring it with you. We will
also have the forms available at the site.
 Due to insurance and personnel restrictions, this is an adult only work site.
Donating volunteer hours:
You can donate your volunteer hours to a homeowner working on their sweat equity.
The Construction Staff will mention this during the morning briefing and will point out
those families if they are present. If you want to donate your hours, place the family
name on the sign in sheet by your name. There is a special section for donating hours.
Lunch / Work times:
Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday volunteers- please bring your lunch. Work starts
at 9:15 am and ends approximately at 3 pm depending on the stage of the task(s)
being accomplished. If it is 3 pm and the task will be done in another 10-15 minutes,
the crew will complete the task before cleaning up for the day.
Saturday the community will donate volunteers- lunch. Work starts at 8:00 am-
4pm.
The workday starts with a safety briefing. Please do not be late. We want everyone to
have a safe and enjoyable day.
Clothing: Wear closed toe shoes (dress flats are not appropriate), no hanging /
dangling jewelry or loose clothing.
If you have tools, you can bring them but please make sure they have your name on
them.
Location and Parking:
The build site 815 N 12th Street in Temple. Address and directions will be provided
when you register with the Habitat office.
There is little parking as it is a residential area. Please do not block fire hydrants or
driveways. Please lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in sight.
