Personal and Professional advancement are not about loyalty anymore. Complacency is the new Killer. To succeed in today's hostile environment, agility is crucial.
2. Many years ago, in the country of Joytopia, Deara the turkey was born.
Initially, Deara was worried and fearful of danger. Deara was very
concerned for her well-being. Deara ran away and hid from people.
Many times, Deara attempted to escape her confinement and become
free. Deara wanted to be free and meet other turkeys. Deara longed for
spiritual and personal growth. Deara's many attempts to escape the
Complacency Prison failed.
The Complacency Prison provided Deara with comfortable shelter and
plenty of food. Soon, Deara became comfortable in her environment.
Deara had plenty of delicious food, the affection and love of the children
in the camp, and shelter from the weather, especially dangerous and
disastrous thunderstorms. Deara enjoyed playing with the kids.
Many people. Who visited the Complacency Prison, observed how their
own children loved Deara. Many times, the visitors offered to buy Deara
because they wanted to make Deara a part of their families. Every time,
Deara defeated the adoption by expressing extreme rage and hostility,
during the offers of adoption. These deliberate and expressive displays
of rage were enough to change the minds of the would be lifetime
companions.
3. As more time passed, Deara became fully convinced that she was safe in
the compound. Many times, the gate of the compound was left open.
This gave Deara the opportunity to obtain personal growth by consulting
the wise and learned turkeys who resided in the mountains, never
pursued it. Deara never left the compound because she was convinced of
her safety and security. Every passing day proved to Deara that she was
safe. A warm blanket of false security covered Deara.
Because Deara was very comfortable in her environment, Deara failed to
gain new knowledge and make assessments, especially on a broader
scale--beyond the boundaries of the Complacency Prison. Deara lived in
the shadow of a false sense of security. After all, Deara reasoned, if
nothing has happened to me after all of these days, then nothing will
happen to me in the future. Deara mistakenly thought that, since she had
been safe for so many days, she would continue to be safe in the future.
On one Thanksgiving Day, Deara's neck was positioned, by her captors,
against a tree stump. Deara did not know what was happening. She
assumed that everything was fine because, in the past many days,
nothing bad had happened. Deara's caregivers chopped her head off with
an ax. Thereafter, Deara was cooked and turned into the main meal of
the Thanksgiving feast. Everyone at the celebration enjoyed eating
Deara including the children who used to happily play with Deara.
Deara became a victim of complacency.
