Power generation –
a growth market in India
+   Installed PG capacity 170 GW by end of January, 2011
+   The current 5 year plan extending to 2012 will add 60 GW to PG capacity India (a quarter short of
    the target)
+   There are a number of new hydro power plants in construction and planning stages that could add
    another 30 GW to PG capacity
+   There also are plans to increase the nuclear power generation capacity to 470 GW by 2050

The other side of the coin
− The growth of power generation, especially in private sector and independent power producer (IPP)
    projects, has been shadowed by political, administrative and economic problems
− Independent power producers have had troubles at making fuel purchasing agreements and at
    agreeing on prices of electricity they sell with State Electricity Boards
