Overview/Summary
Internship at a newly opened café, the café is based in sharq. It is basically a traditional
Kuwaiti Café mixed with modernization. Where it serves the Kuwaiti bread (Rqaq) with
different kinds of fillings such as chicken, turkey, all kinds of cheese, eggs, falafel, chocolates,
marshmallow, cinnamon and it also serves iced coffee, hot coffee and the traditional old drinks
such as iced baithan, vimto, rose water and many more blended with ice.
Basically, I’ll be holding the social media account for the café; I’ll be having pictures taken,
creating captions and making video ads for the new account. Moreover, I will try to reach the
maximum audience possible during my internship. I’ll be asking people to advertise and pay
some bloggers to advertise too. Not only I shall be posting pictures and videos made by me but I
will also edit them as I have learnt from COMM 110 and editing videos from class Broadcast
Journalism. I will be using Photoshop program, IMovie and IPhone applications.
The captions used on photos and videos are learnt from writing to mass media class, how to
attract the audience and also captions need translation learnt from Translation class, how to
translate from English to Arabic.
I will also be monitoring the account for 24 hours answering questions and updating the
account as for the timing during Ramadan changes. If possible Rqaq café might join some
exhibition during my internship for catering service and as for that I will be supervising the
station of Rqaq. However, the aim for now is to spread the word around Kuwait about the café.
My target is to gain at least 1000 followers during my internship. I will also ask my blogger
friends to add some posts for free. @Rqaq_Cafe
Week 1
Organized the first week’s posts and captions to post on daily basis, every morning one post after
editing, adding the logo and call for action, either by using a quote to explain about it or
explaining about the Rqaq bread. Took couple more pictures to get ready for the next week’s
posts using a cannon G12 camera, a semiprofessional camera. After each post I had to wait for
comments, as I received great comments, some had questions about location and what we are
selling, had to answer each one of them as quickly as possible. I have to be online 24 hours.
The next day I emailed couple of bloggers to ask for a post or to pay rqaq café a visit. Bloggers:
Kuwaitfoodie, Daneeda,Kitchenetteq8, Theveeview, Afnaneto (specialized in food),
dustyrose_photos and Danderma. Some answered right away, some haven’t answered. I also
contacted some bloggers asking for prices. The prices ranged from 400-900 K.D per post, and
gave my supervisor the prices.

By the end of the week, the owner asked me to produce a video, he did not ask for something
specific, he wanted me to do it as I liked. So I made a story board using my papers from previous
classes. By the next day, using the same camera, I took some video shots, edited using IPhone
application “Game Your Video” and another application called “Montaj” The video was about
the process of making coffee using a specific machinery. After editing the video speeding the
process of the making added some music and effects the video was ready to be posted. Before
posting anything I return to my supervisor if he accepts I shall post. After getting the acceptance
I posted it by the right time using the quote “Coffee is always a good idea”. Mostly people check
there Instagram 10am, 6pm and Midnight, that’s when I get to post, this information I got from
my blogger friend @saraalrash which she got from an advertising agency.
Week 2
The second week my supervisor asked me if I now any professional food photographer’s so I
told him about @ishootq8. He told me to call and ask for them to come and shoot. So I called
booked an appointment for shooting with @ishootq8 for the next day. The shooting day was a
new experience as I got to experience professional food shooting. We got to set everything at the
café; the photographer bought everything needed, as we served the rqaq bread we wanted to
shoot plus hot and cold drinks. Food shooting is not as easy as I thought it would be, however, I
learnt from him as he begun shooting. Colors, background and positioning is very important. For
still ads we learnt in classes the positioning should be Z shape, logo, product call for action. Food
should be the focus of the photo but with rqaq the filling of it should be the focus. After finishing
the photo-shoot, we received a CD filled with 32 edited pictures from @ishootq8. So after the
editing I had to add rqaq logo to every single picture in order to upload them.
The next day I was ready to make another video for the instagram account. Again I started a
story board, which is about the process of making the rqaq bread with the filling of “Musakhan”
chicken with garlic sauce. I started shooting the video right after doing the storyboard with my
G12 canon. After that I got to edit the video with the iPhone application “Game Your Video” an
easy program to use for speeding the video as the process took 1 minute 33 seconds, I had to pull
it down to 15 seconds. This time I did not use music only little effect I left the background sound
as is, the sound of bread on the “Tawa” fire. I showed my supervisor he was happy about it and
told me to post it. It was a close up shot preferably for food as learnt from @ishootq8. I got to
upload the video right away to the instagram account and got very nice feedback. The next day I
searched for more bloggers, so I emailed them regarding visiting rqaq café, got really great
feedback also.
Week 3
Week three started with a phone call asking for 250-rqaq bread and 50 drinks from the menu. It
was hard for a small café to fulfill the order with only 4 people working at the café. However, the
two supervisors asked for my help too. We started working from 8 am till 3 pm that day. We
started making the packaging ready and making the bread where they taught me how to do it.
The fillings we had to shred some cheese make drinks, iced vimto, iced baithan, iced saffron,
iced rose and caramel Frappuccino. It took us a lot of time however, we did fulfill the order on
time. After making the order, I took advantage of that and took pictures of it while making, while
packaging and while putting everything into the car of the customer. She contacted us at night,
telling us that everything was just perfect and delicious, everyone was happy about it.
A friend told me once in order to gain more followers on the instagram account I should
comment on famous instagramers and bloggers. Which I tried it, it worked as I saw that I gained
more followers on the account. The next day a guy called from emirate told us that he passed by
the rqaq café, he was on a transit flight for five hours in Kuwait, he heard about rqaq from
Instagram so he tried it and loved it. He was very happy about it, which he asked for a franchise
in Dubai. I told him that I’d let my supervisor to contact you about that.
The next day @ishootq8 posted a photo from what he has taken of rqaq café showing the rqaq
bread and a coffee drink in the background. We gained from his post about 203 followers.
@Sugarcoated a business in Kuwait posted about Rqaq just right after @ishootq8 posted, they
wanted to help, which is a nice thing coming from them, I thanked them for that.
The next day was preparing and pricing for the catering service that will start for the coming
week. How will it be done and how will it be delivered, preparing the amount for packaging,
food and drinks.
The next day was calm, so I started producing a video, then again with a new storyboard. This
time it was about the drinks we had at rqaq. I used my IPhone camera using an application called
“animate it” I’ve used it before for a class and earned an A for the video produced. So I decided
to create a similar video but with the drinks of rqaq. The drinks were Iced vimto, Iced Saffron,
Iced rose, Iced Lemon with Mint and Iced Baithan. It wasn’t easy as I had troubles with the
lighting of the café. However, with the effects used it went well. After editing, cutting and
speeding the video up, I added some music to it. I then showed it to my supervisor he was
impressed, so I uploaded it. Many people commented, as they liked the colors of it.
Week 4
Week four started with the catering service, so after preparing everything we went for a trial at
home where we invited friends. After a good trial, everything went well; I took several pictures
of the catering service in order to post about it. So I did post about the catering service and wrote
a caption stating: :‫للحجز‬ ‫كنتم‬ ‫اينما‬ ‫تصلكم‬ ‫رقاق‬ ‫خدمة‬ ‫االن‬ ‫من‬86519805
RQaQ catering service just started wherever you’re at. For reservations:50891563
I answered many calls regarding the catering service as I had all information about it, we were
ready to serve. My supervisor asked me to go with the catering service to an event hosted by
Ghaliah Tech. The catering service was done for free for Ghaliah Tech Company as they are
known for their bloggers and advertising. I had to dress up as to be professional as I am going for
an important event as the supervisor of Rqaq.
On the day of the event, I went with three workers of rqaq and the equipment’s to the event early
3 hours to prepare everything before we start serving. As we were positioned next to several
other catering services we started preparing and got ready just in time for the event. As people
and bloggers came into the event area. I took many pictures and saw a camera man, asked if he
could take a picture of our catering service. He took several pictures and told me that he will post
about it. The next day he did.
I got to meet many other bloggers in person such as Faisal Al Basri, Mishari Buyabis, dalalid and
many other bloggers, got them to try our rqaq. Also I got to meet and introduced myself to the
owner of Ghaliah Tech Abdulrazzaq Al Mutawa as he checked the account of rqaq and told me
that I’m doing a great job and should pass by the office of Ghaliah Tech anytime soon for a job
there. It is an honor for me that he said that knowing that Ghaliah Tech is expanding rapidly.
Connecting with people is a very important asset for my future career in Communication and
Media.
The next day some random people posted about rqaq, pictures from the event, some visited rqaq
and some are people who I met at the event as I asked them for feedback about the taste and
serving. Got a call for another major event catering service for Dhahiat Abdullah Al Salem but
this time for kids only, they asked for Nutella and drinks only for 50 kids. We prepared
everything and the service was ready to go as I check listed the stuff needed. After the event the
mother called and thanked us for the service and wanted another catering service for the next
week. She also posted pictures of it and we gained more followers. By that time, my internship is
done and my target was also done as I gained followers more than I expected. The followers
were 80 when I held the account and now it is about 1500 followers and more.
The week ended with me producing a new video, made a new storyboard, the making of rqaq but
this time with Nutella as a filling. I used the Canon G12 camera, I asked the worker while he is
putting in the nutella to write RQAQ using the nutella and that I’ll be shooting close up. The first
try did not work well, however, the second try was just perfect. I then started editing, cutting,
added effects and speeding the video to get a 15 second video in order to post it. I added an
Modern “oud” sound music to it. It was just perfect as it was the mostly liked video and mostly
commented video.
Final Report
The experience was a success, as I learnt about photo shooting professionally in particularly in
real life situation. I also learnt communicating with people and meeting them is more important,
making friends with bloggers and important figures in society is even better as for a
Communication and Media major and for other majors as it will help later on in life. I also
experienced making video ads alone with no help at all, editing, cutting and adding music to the
video ads where the music has to click with the motion video ad. Time is also important that the
video has to be ready when the supervisor suggests so I tried to fulfill that as much as I could and
he was satisfied. I produced a video for each week; however, the only video that was difficult to
do was the drinks video, as it required more effort as it is live animation made.
I got to organize the first week’s posts and captions to post on daily basis, every morning one
post after editing, adding the logo and adding a call for action, either by using a quote to explain

I shot couple more pictures to get ready for the next week’s posts using a cannon G12 camera, a semiprofessional camera. After each post I had to wait for comments, as I received great comments, some had questions about location and what we are selling, had to answer each one of them as quickly as possible. I have to be online 24 hours. I emailed couple of bloggers to ask for a post or to pay rqaq café a visit. Bloggers such as: Kuwaitfoodie, Daneeda, Kitchenetteq8, Theveeview, Afnaneto (specialized in food), dustyrose_photos and Danderma. Some answered right away, some haven’t answered. I also contacted some bloggers asking for prices. The prices ranged from 400-900 K.D per post, and gave my supervisor the prices.
  • 11. The supervisor asked me to produce a video, he did not ask for something specific, he wanted me to do it as I liked. So I made a storyboard using my papers from previous classes. By the next day, using the same camera, I took some video shots, edited using IPhone application “Game Your Video” and another application called “Montaj” The video was about the process of making coffee using a specific machinery. After editing the video speeding the process of the making added some music and effects the video was ready to be posted. Before posting anything I return to my supervisor if he accepts I shall post. After getting the acceptance I posted it by the right time using the quote “Coffee is always a good idea”. For the second week it was contacting a photographer. The shooting day was a new experience as I got to experience professional food shooting. We got to set everything at the café; the photographer bought everything needed, as we served the rqaq bread we wanted to shoot plus hot and cold drinks. Food shooting is not as easy as I thought it would be, however, I learnt from him as he begun shooting. Colors, background and positioning is very important. For still ads we learnt in classes the positioning should be Z shape, logo, product call for action. Food should be the focus of the photo but with rqaq the filling of it should be the focus. After finishing the photo-shoot, we received a CD filled with 32 edited pictures from @ishootq8. So after the editing I had to add rqaq logo to every single picture in order to upload them. I got to make another video for the instagram account. Again I started a storyboard, which is about the process of making the rqaq bread with the filling of “Musakhan” chicken with garlic sauce. I started shooting the video right after doing the storyboard with my G12 canon. After that I got to edit the video with the iPhone application “Game Your Video” an easy program to use for speeding the video as the process took 1 minute 33 seconds, I had to pull it down to 15 seconds. This time I did not use music only little effect I left the background sound as is, the
  • 12. sound of bread on the “Tawa” fire. I showed my supervisor he was happy about it and told me to post it. It was a close up shot preferably for food as learnt from @ishootq8. I got to upload the video right away to the instagram account and got very nice feedback. Week three started with a phone call asking for 250-rqaq bread and 50 drinks from the menu. It was hard for a small café to fulfill the order with only 4 people working at the café. However, the two supervisors asked for my help too. We started working from 8 am till 3 pm that day. We started making the packaging ready and making the bread where they taught me how to do it. The fillings we had to shred some cheese make drinks, iced vimto, iced baithan, iced saffron, iced rose and caramel Frappuccino. It took us a lot of time however, we did fulfill the order on time. After making the order, I took advantage of that and took pictures of it while making, while packaging and while putting everything into the car of the customer. Ended calmly, so I started producing a video, then again with a new storyboard. This time it was about the drinks we had at rqaq. I used my IPhone camera using an application called “animate it” I’ve used it before for a class and earned an A for the video produced. So I decided to create a similar video but with the drinks of rqaq. The drinks were Iced vimto, Iced Saffron, Iced rose, Iced Lemon with Mint and Iced Baithan. It wasn’t easy as I had troubles with the lighting of the café. However, with the effects used it went well. After editing, cutting and speeding the video up, I added some music to it. I then showed it to my supervisor he was impressed, so I uploaded it. Many people commented, as they liked the colors of it. For the forth week, We started with the catering service, so after preparing everything we went for a trial at home where we invited friends. After a good trial, everything went well; I took
  • 13. several pictures of the catering service in order to post about it. So I did post about the catering service and wrote a caption stating: :‫للحجز‬ ‫كنتم‬ ‫اينما‬ ‫تصلكم‬ ‫رقاق‬ ‫خدمة‬ ‫االن‬ ‫من‬86519805 RQaQ catering service just started wherever you’re at. For reservations:50891563 My supervisor asked me to go with the catering service to an event hosted by Ghaliah Tech. The catering service was done for free for Ghaliah Tech Company as they are known for their bloggers and advertising. I had to dress up as to be professional as I am going for an important event as the supervisor of Rqaq. On the day of the event, I went with three workers of rqaq and the equipment’s to the event early 3 hours to prepare everything before we start serving. As we were positioned next to several other catering services we started preparing and got ready just in time for the event.
