Family Resource Assoc., Inc. of Shrewsbury holds PossAbilities Walk,
TECH Expo & 30th Anniversary Celebration at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan
Shrewsbury, NJ – October 2009 - Family Resource Assoc., Inc. (FRA) of Shrewsbury held their
PossAbilities Walk, TECH Expo and 30th Anniversary Picnic on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 at The
Atlantic Club in Manasquan. The festivities were sponsored in part by the Marriott New Jersey
Business Council.
In the last thirty years, FRA has made a significant difference in the lives of over 11,000 children and
their families in the area. The one-mile PossAbilities Walk celebrated the abilities and
accomplishments of children and adults with special needs. The 30th anniversary picnic
commemorated 30 years of service to the community. Participants to this event included people of all
ages with disabilities, as well as their friends, families, teachers, co-workers and other supporters.
The TECH Expo, sponsored in part by a grant from the Gannett Foundation, featured computer
stations equipped with samples of some of the most popular, interesting and useful assistive technology
devices. This assistive technology provides simple remedies for any challenges that may limit an
individual from using a computer. Vendor displays also included a child identification table and
featured other local businesses and services.
Radio station HIT106 (106.3 FM) greeted all participants with their hit music throughout the morning.
Participants enjoyed face painting, arts & crafts as well as a drawing contest during the day. Bringing
awareness of and support to children with disabilities, four children carried the FRA Banner for the
mile-long walk around the path at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan. They were cheered on by
volunteers as well as checkpoint signs sponsored by their families, friends and other community
members. The volunteers consisted of students from Manasquan High School, St. John Vianney High
School of Holmdel and Communications High School of Wall.
The walk was followed by a family barbecue lunch featuring Buster the Lakewood Blue Claws mascot,
more crafts, face painting and games for the kids. “Dancing with Jay” was a big hit with all participants
as they danced to music provided by Jammin' Jay Bowman. Children enjoyed pony rides on therapeutic
ponies brought by Bella Rosa Riding Academy. Joining in the celebration of 30 years were six of the
FRA founding families. Special Thanks to all of FRA's community sponsors including; Mid-Atlantic
Resource Group, Ocean First Foundation, Mr. Richard Osborne, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sheeser and Mr.
Mike Cronin.

WHO: Family Resource Assoc., Inc.
It was over lunch in 1978 that five professional women, frustrated at bureaucratic inertia, decided to
form a groundbreaking organization to help children with disabilities and their families in Monmouth
County. Family Resource Assoc., Inc. is a New Jersey non-profit organization located in Shrewsbury,
NJ. Their mission, to help children, adolescents and people of all ages with disabilities reach their
fullest potential, is met by unique programs in response to the needs of the community. FRA connects
individuals to independence through modern therapies and advance technology. Acknowledging the
powerful influence of family, FRA remains committed to them by offering both support and education.
FRA assists individuals of all ages who have developmental delays or disabilities by the use of
distinctive programs, including a home-based infant intervention program, therapeutic recreation
programs, along with family and sibling support groups. Their TECHConnection demonstration center
is a community place to explore the many computer assistive technology options, specialty programs
and devices to gain educational, vocational and individual success. Many unique programs are now
offered for adults with disabilities. While the service area for home-based therapy is Monmouth
