Falls by seniors have a major impact on quality of life… <ul><li>Leading cause of injury death of individuals over the age of 60 </li></ul><ul><li>#1 reason for entry into long-term care facilities </li></ul><ul><li>Over 1.3 million older Californians fall each year… many sustain hip fractures, head injury or death. Falls are the leading cause of loss of independence among seniors </li></ul>

Every year… one-third of older adults fall <ul><ul><li>300,000 will fracture a hip . . . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>and within 1 year … </li></ul></ul><ul><li>… 100,000 of these will have died as a result </li></ul><ul><li>Of those who survive many will have some form of reduced mobility and will have problems functioning independently </li></ul><ul><li>war deaths </li></ul>
