One of the aims of English Together is to bring teachers together as part of a
Professional Learning Community, to support each other by creating a safe
space where teachers can reflect on their teaching practice, discuss common
problems, and seek solutions together.

By the end of the session, teachers will be able to:
share their experience of working with students whose abilities are mixed
discuss challenges students have when listening in English
identify a range of techniques that teachers can use to differentiate listening tasks
discuss their experience of using these techniques
select one technique to integrate into their lessons

Procedure
•On each point of the star write something that is important for
you, such as a date, name, number, likes/dislikes, etc. For
example, I usually write Mustafa (my husband’s name), 31 (my
age), 1+1 (I have a daughter and a son), Finland (my dream
holiday) and so on.
•Write these words down but don’t tell your friends why they’re
there. They have to ask you questions and try to guess the
meaning of what you’ve written.
•Discuss what each word or phrase repsesents something
important from your life.
“Fido” could / might be his dog’s name. It can’t be his wife’s
name.
The activity can be used to teach models as
‘ can, may ,might, must’
(Group Work) Short Discussion: Look at the visual to clarify the terminology of differentiation and discuss
about the pictures in your group and relate them with the topic.

(Group Work) Brainstorming: Please get your pieces of cardboard and brainstorm
some of the challenges that your students face when listening in English and your
challenges while teaching listening in your classes. Please take notes on the
cardboards.
