To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to provide documentation of work with Ms. Fabiana Couto and to
enthusiastically endorse her for future work in this area. Ms. Couto worked with me at the
University of California San Francisco (UCSF) from November 2012 through June 2013 and
completed 100 hours of work. Of note, I moved to Stanford University School of Medicine in
August of 2014. Our clinical research team examines ways to promote disease management
and health outcomes in youth with diabetes. In addition, as a licensed psychologist, I work
clinically with youth and adults with diabetes, and their families. In both the research and clinical
settings, I utilize evidence-based approaches and target behavioral and emotional factors to
improve health and psychological outcomes. To do this type of work, I have to rely on
compassionate, skilled, flexible, and organized individuals; Ms. Couto is exactly this type of
person and was a great asset to our team.
During her work, Fabiana contributed to our program by working on a research study
where she interacted with youth and families in a number of ways. She interviewed families
through psychological assessments to assess for mental disorders such as depression and she
also helped facilitate groups of teenagers living with type 1 diabetes and taught them cognitive
behavioral therapeutic tools in order to overcome adversity in their treatment and outside it as
well. Fabiana is highly passionate about the work she did here with us; she is a curious learner
and committed to give her best at work. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her and have
her on our team.
I believe Fabiana will be very successful in her future work in Brazil. I believe she has
the skills, dedication, passion, and experience to thrive in future work in diabetes and
psychology, or other areas she decides to pursue. I recommend Ms. Couto highly and without
reservation. Thank you for your consideration and please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Korey K. Hood, Ph.D.
