The FBM KLCI index lost 26.78 points or 1.64% on Wednesday. The Finance Index fell 2.52% to 14333.99
points, the Properties Index dropped 2.30% to 1123.86 points and the Plantation Index down 1.11% to
7075.36 points. The market traded within a range of 26.37 points between an intra-day high of 1629.63 and
a low of 1603.26 during the session.
Actively traded stocks include FBMKLCI-HK, FRONTKN, FBMKLCI-HG, FBMKLCI-HS, SUMATEC, HSI-CT,
UNISEM, FBMKLCI-CZ, AAX and HSI-HD. Trading volume increased to 2490.07 mil shares worth RM2292.74
mil as compared to Tuesday’s 1987.06 mil shares worth RM2071.43 mil.
Leading Movers were BAT (+86 sen to RM62.88) and MAXIS (+1 sen to RM6.38). Lagging Movers were
SKPETRO (-16 sen to RM2.03), GENM (-18 sen to RM3.79), HLFG (-62 sen to RM14.38), AMMB (-21 sen to
RM5.05) and RHBCAP (-25 sen to RM6.71). Market breadth was negative with 96 gainers as compared to 973
losers.
The KLCI extended its losing streak, plunging to 1609.93 points and hovered above its psychological support
level of 1600 points. Market sentiment was negative as ringgit weakened past 4 to U.S. Dollar and as China’s
move to depreciate its currency by almost 2 percent hurt global market sentiment.
