The Food Safety & Standards Act. 2006 enacted by the legislature of India to improve the performance of the food industry. The primary purpose of the Act is to regulate the functioning of food operator, online seller, manufacturer, distributor, and importer. You can't start a food kind of business without a valid food license from concern state government. Therefore, any food manufacturing or food processing or packaging or distributing entity is now required to obtain a food license under FSSAI. The regulator has taken such active steps to introduce transparency in the food business and also to ensure that food products undergo certain quality checks, and food product should be prepared, packed and marketed as per pre-defined norms by FSSAI. However, with the strong footprint by the FSSAI enforcement officer the instances of adulteration, substandard products and improve accountability of manufacturers. In early 2016, FSSAI had banned the consumption of Maggie by Nestle in India. Later FSSAI lifted the ban after modification in manufacturing components of Nestle Maggie.
