COMMUNICATIONS
Speaking practice, conversations, presentations, listening skills,

the test for daytime classes.
PRONUNCIATION
Intonation, word stress, enunciation, vowel and consonant

Library Students and faculty can freely use the library to practice English, with more than 200 thousand
books, almost half a million eBooks, films, 10 thousand journals, for study or research.
Center for the Arts Concert, theater, recital, and lecture halls for music, comedy, dances, lectures, graduations,
festivals, art exhibitions, and more.

Business Welcome
Lunch
After the official welcome & orientation by the international area of CSI (Center for
Global Engagement), the Business Department will present how business is run in
NY during welcome lunch.
Beginner

English program with ELI teachers, especially designed with academic purposes
(finance, int’l business, management, etc.). This will focus on content-based English
grammar, speaking, reading, and vocabulary exercises. Content can be adapted to
other business fields upon requests.
Lectures
Topics will be: Innovation with Incubators (CSI Tech Incubator), Entrepreneurship
with Quality, Strategic Management, and Digital Marketing (School of Business).
Company visits
Two main institutions or company visits with briefings depending on availability.
These could be: Google Manhattan, Bloomberg, CSI Tech Incubator, US-China
Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Tours
Students will take the hop on/off tour bus around Manhattan. They will see Times
Square, the Empire State Building, Central Part, Chinatown, Wall Street, and more!

CSI – School of
Business
The School of Business at the College of Staten Island prepares and shapes business leaders for the New
York metropolitan region and beyond. Built on a legacy of teaching, scholarship, and professional engagement
the School of Business offers strong programs that combine business discipline skills, exposure to the latest
technology, and the breadth of the liberal arts and sciences through its comprehensive curricula.
CSI Tech Incubator
The CSI Tech Incubator fosters a community of tech innovators and entrepreneurs that are seeking to ad-
vance and grow their startups. It has a robust technological ecosystem with strategic mentors, industry profes-
sionals, faculty, sponsors, government leaders and a dedicated tactical team with the mutual goal of supporting
and elevating entrepreneurs.

This will focus on content-based English grammar, speaking, reading, and vocabu-
lary exercises, a lot of games and practical English!
Campus life
Sports activities, conferences and student club meetings (only during semester/
summer terms), cultural activities, library available.
Activities
Available upon request and depending on dates: United Nations Headquarters, zoo,
beach, picnic in the park, baseball game, Broadway show, and more!
Tours
Students will take the hop on/off tour bus around Manhattan. They will see Times
Square, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Chinatown, Wall Street, and more!

CSI International Student Club meetings: All international and local students meet
every Tuesday to discuss about interesting topics that involve their experience
abroad (discussions, role-plays, lectures, outings, presentations, and more.
ELI Culture Day: ELI International students organize different presentations where
they talk about their own cultures with dances, food, talks, videos, and more. ELI
teachers and students prepare the content and the whole campus is invited.

Classes offered: Reading/Writing, Grammar, Communications, and TOEFL Workshops. All levels of English are taught with an
emphasis on American culture. TOEFL Workshop classes are included in the price of the Spring, summer and Fall sessions and
are also offered separately except for evening classes. They are specifically designed to enhance test-taking strategies for the
TOEFL, ACT, and CATW exams. TOEFL test is included in fee and administered only at the end of each semester/summer term.

  • 11. English programs COURSES DESCRIPTION LEVELS READING/WRITING Readings and compositions, reading games, writing stories, vo- cabulary exercises, reading comprehension, meaningful writing. Beginner Intermediate Advanced GRAMMAR Explanation, structures, usage, grammar games, analysis, oral and written results, grammar exercises for tests. COMMUNICATIONS Speaking practice, conversations, presentations, listening skills, communicative approach, oral exercises. TOEFL Grammar, reading, listening, and vocabulary exercises. ELI offers the test for daytime classes. PRONUNCIATION Intonation, word stress, enunciation, vowel and consonant sounds, speaking exercises. Evening classes only. PROGRAM SESSIONS DAYS HOURS TIME SEMESTER Mornings & evenings Tuesday to Friday 18 hours/week AM: 9am—2:30pm PM: 6:30pm—10:00pm SUMMER Mornings & evenings Monday to Thursday 18 hours/week AM: 9am—3:30pm PM: 6:30pm—10:00pm PROGRAM CALENDAR COURSES WEEKS SEMESTER Spring: January-May Fall: August-December Reading/Writing Grammar Communications TOEFL (only daytime) 16 weeks SUMMER May-Jun & Jul-Aug 6 weeks Students can start any Monday or Tuesday (Semester or Summer) according to calendar. BUSINESS Business English courses with focused vocabulary/exercises, visits to companies, lectures, CSI Incubator, and business lab. CULTURAL Additional component with cultural activities (field trips, visits to museums, family homestay experience, shows, films, etc.). SKYPE Practice of speaking/listening skills from computer or cell phone. Personal schedule per hour or week. Center for the Arts Concert, theater, recital, and lecture halls for music, comedy, dances, lectures, graduations, festivals, art exhibitions, and more. Business English program - 1 week PROGRAM DESCRIPTION LEVELS Business Welcome Lunch After the official welcome & orientation by the international area of CSI (Center for Global Engagement), the Business Department will present how business is run in NY during welcome lunch. Beginner Intermediate Advanced Business English English program with ELI teachers, especially designed with academic purposes (finance, int’l business, management, etc.). This will focus on content-based English grammar, speaking, reading, and vocabulary exercises. Content can be adapted to other business fields upon requests. Lectures Topics will be: Innovation with Incubators (CSI Tech Incubator), Entrepreneurship with Quality, Strategic Management, and Digital Marketing (School of Business). Company visits Two main institutions or company visits with briefings depending on availability. These could be: Google Manhattan, Bloomberg, CSI Tech Incubator, US-China Chamber of Commerce, among others. Tours Students will take the hop on/off tour bus around Manhattan. They will see Times Square, the Empire State Building, Central Part, Chinatown, Wall Street, and more!
