Dallas opening credits symbolism
1. Dallas season 1
The helicopter reflecting in the glass buildings in the dallas opening credits shows wealth
aswell as all the grand buildings surrounding.
The song played over the top is an uplifting song like they have nothing to worry about
because there ‘winning’
The long shot of Dallas also resembles wealth with all these grand buildings in a derelict area
with nothing surrounding, and the cars entering via the long stretch of road, incinuating
people from all round come to admire Dallas
White buildings and clothing shows they have alot of money as they are surrounded by oil
and dirt they can afford to replace anything straight away if damaged.
The opening title card ‘DALLAS’ tells you not only where it is set, but insinuates they are
proud of their city
Dallas season 2
The way they are cultivating the land for oil shows greed for more money
The short clips of the stars at the beginning; this introduces the characters to the audience in
a less formal way and makes them aware of the stars of the show. All the characters are
shown in expensive clothes to show wealth. The briefness of the clip suggests an arrogance
that the viewer should already know who they are.
The Dallas Title card in the intro has been made significantly brighter, suggesting a further
prosperity than in the first season. In the 1980’s the technology was seen as a social status
and as such greater special effects are used to show social status.
New young actors are introduced as to account for the new younger viewers watching the
show.
