1. Emily Ruterbusch
Daydream
The fingerprinted window
Glistened with the morning
Dew drops. A slight breeze
Lightly pushing
Hair from the young
Girl’s face.
It calls to her.
Calls her by name.
A sudden burst of life.
Forcing sleepy muscles
To warm themselves with
Sudden rush.
Tossing school chairs
Through the screen, breaking
The only thing left between the mundane
and life itself.
The sheer rigidness of
The breeze continuously calling.
Jump!
Running through the crowded
Sea of students and slipping between the broken
Pieces to an adventure beyond wildest
Imagination.
Freedom.
The sudden alertness of the cool air
Brought the hair
To stand on end.
And in an instant,
The world around her
Changes like a holographic room.
Visible light prisms change
Around her, taking her to a
World of darkness.
People s c a t t e r and
The building she once knew
Blew up in flames.
Dressed to the “T” in armor,
But for what?
Giant, thunderous booms
Shake the ground beneath her.
Just as the smoke clears
2. Behind the building. Faint
Shadows scream for her to run.
She runs.
Faster and faster.
Right before her eyes the sun
Peered across her face
Like a jolt of lightning.
Blinding her as she
trips
over her
New cloth.
Making her way
Across an open balcony,
While violins play with
The background tunes.
Catching an open gaze from afar.
With a deceiving smile asking
For the challenge.
And as he makes his way to her presence,
With outstretched hand.
To take or not to take?
With the blink of an eye,
She stands at the top
Of a
Scandalous
Kings
Yielding
Suddenly
Crossing
Ruin
Against
Proper
Events
Rising
Masked in darkness with nothing
But the moon
For light.
She adjusts the covering on her face,
Feeling a sudden urge to jump.
Jump off the building
So high.
Jump once again.
Fall or fly.
Her feet leave
3. solid structure with a
Weightlessness that
Overwhelms her soul.
Screams heard in a distant
place, unable for the human ear
To recognize.
Touching ground in front
Of a strange encounter.
Holding a deadly weapon, RED HOT beams
Shot from her eyes like some sort of
Superhuman~~.
Knocking down danger
Laid before her.
And in an instance,
The warm sun blinded her
With a glare from the glass.
Listening to the droning tone
Of the teacher speak,
I sat in my school chair
Pen in hand.
Wandering back to the
Double life just experienced.
Adventure and all,
Yet it was just
a dream.
