The following days are paid, statutory holidays:
As a caregiver, you are NOT automatically protected by the CSST : your
employer must register you in order to benefit of the protection. Should
he refuse to register you, you cannot force him but you can register
yourself for personal protection and pay the fee yourself.
Note: If you work on a statutory holiday you
must obtain an indemnity or a compensatory
holiday equivalent to one day, in addition to
your regular wages.
. Each hour that you are in the home of your
employers, available upon their request, is
an hour worked. Therefore, you must be
paid for that hour.
Meals and Rests
After a work period of 5
consecutive hours, you
are entitled to a 30-
minute rest period
(without pay) for meals.
But if you are not
authorized to leave
your work premises,
that period must be
paid!
What is considered an hour of "work"?
What is "overtime" work?
A regular workweek is 40 hours, whether you
live with your employer or not.. Any additional
hours worked are considered overtime.
Each week you are entitled to a rest
period of at least 32 consecutive
hours!
CSST Salary and Pay Slip
When you begin a new job, your employers have
one month to give you your first pay. After that,
they must pay you at least once every 2 weeks.
If you do not receive a pay slip you can ask
you employers for it. You can also ask, when
signing the work contract with your employers,
that it clearly state that you will be given a pay
slip for each pay.
Ask for your pay slip!
Leaving the LCP:
The AAFQ does not recommend switching from the LCP to one of the
new pathways. Although the new pathways offer faster processing of
permanent residency applications the requirements are more difficult to
meet!
Moving out of the employer's house:
Even though the CIC has eliminated the live-in requirement this does not
apply to the LCP program. Thus, if you decide to move out of your
employer's house before completing your 24 months you will no longer
be under the LCP you will be considered a temporary worker and fall into
the two pathways.
