EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
AquaCasa purified water station is a purified water distribution business owned by Mr.
Rizandro C. Nolasco Jr. And Mrs. Ella May U. Nolasco. The water station is located at
391, Purok 2, Alcaraz Subdivision, Brgy. Sto Niño, San Pablo City Laguna. Our target
markets are the residents of nearby villages.
The owners decided to be in the water refilling business to engage in the sale and
supply of treated water to residential apartments, offices, schools, and households.
They are also in business to make profit at the same time to give people and
businesses who patronize their purified water the opportunity to be part of the success
story of AquaCasa Water Refilling Station.
Water is an essential commodity. As such The Public Health Department makes sure
that all Water Refilling Stations meet dependable health and safety standards. It’s
important to keep in mind that if the water in a community is contaminated or polluted;
it can result in an epidemic in that community.
A water refilling station must implement strict hygiene standards and the environment
must always be clean if they want to continue to be in operation. A violation in these
measures might result in the Public Health Department shutting down the business.
AquaCasa offers safe, clean and purified water at a reasonable price, since they are
using one of the advanced technologies in water purification with a 32 stages filtering
process which is also an edge in reaching the standard and quality of a purified
drinking water.
Water Refilling Station Business in the Philippines is undoubtedly a promising and
popular venture, especially amongst first time entrepreneurs – since starting and
managing a water refilling station is relatively easy; with enough hard work, budget,
and the right location. But for the same reason, the competition is also very tight for
water refilling business owners, not to mention all the challenges and responsibilities
that comes with it.so it's important that a business owner spend a good amount of time
analyzing the market and understanding where the demand lies.

BACKGROUND OF THE INDUSTRY
The demand at the water refilling stations – water stores that sell purified water – is
now increasing. The quality of purified water conforms with the national standards for
drinking water and is even better than the quality of water produced by traditional
water supply systems in terms of removal of impurities.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 3.4 million people die
annually from water-related diseases. About a million Filipinos get sick with water-
borne diseases yearly. And these are diarrhea cases alone. They don’t include other
water-borne diseases like amoebiasis, cryptosporidiosis and cholera. These problems
are accredited to the poor water system in the Philippines.
Even in the capital Manila, only about three fourths of the population receives piped
water from the municipal authority. Outside Manila far fewer people have access to
clean water distribution. In both locations, these families must find alternative water
sources if they are to avoid cholera epidemics and other health problems spawned by
the foul, contaminated water available in their neighborhoods.
In the provinces, the scenario is worse. Some people rely on wells or even on rivers
for their supply of water for their daily consumption. Amidst this uncertainty, a solution
has appeared in the thousands of water refilling stations that now dot the Philippine
landscape. These shops began as privately-run community sources, where
consumers would bring containers and fill them for a per-gallon fee that is a small
fraction of commercially bottled water’s cost.
At present, about 3,000 water refilling stations have proliferated nationwide. They sell
purified water of comparable quality with bottled water at a lower price. For example,
the current price per gallon of refilled purified water in Metro Manila ranges from P 50
to P 120 per 5-gallon container or about P 2.50 to P 6.00 per liter while the bottled
water is sold at P 12.00 to P 25.00 per liter. Household filters, on the other hand, cost
P 5,000 to P 25,000 per unit (1 US $ = P 56 in 2004).
In San Pablo Laguna, most of the water refilling stations are connected to the pipes of
one concessionary: San Pablo City Water District for their source of raw water while
in other areas they opt to use private deep wells. The “potable water” supplied by the
providers is then further purified by utilizing a combination of water treatment
equipment, such as sediment filters, carbon filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis
membranes, ultra-violet lamps, and ozone generators. Typical water refilling stations
can produce 3,000 to 12,000 liters of purified water per day. In previous years, most
of the people were bringing a container to a water refilling station to buy purified water.
Nowadays, because of convenience on the part of the consumers, purified water in 5-
gallon (22 liters) containers are delivered by the station directly to the people’s home.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM
AquaCasa water refilling station will be giving free refilled bottles for every 10
recycled bottles surrendered to them. The mentioned recycled plastic bottles will be
sold to plastic recycling businesses for all the profit to be donated to a charitable
institution.
FEATURES OF AQUACASA WATER REFILLING STATION
AquaCasa water refilling station operates with a minimum area of at least 50-75
square meters. It comprises the following sections: refilling and selling room, enclosed
water purification room, container washing and sanitizing room, storage room for
empty and refilled containers, source water storage facility, toilet and an office. Also,
to operate the water store, about five employees are needed.

Strengths
• Focused Business Line - With this kind of business, there is no need to wonder
how you can sell the product.
• Perfect in Any Locations - If an owner is franchising a business, it is always part
of the preliminary preparations to evaluate the location’s feasibility. However,
with a water refilling business, it is not necessarily needed. Moreover, it is a
business that a business owner can offer at the comfort of his/her residence,
so there is no need to rent another place.

does not guarantee an overnight return on the owner’s initial investment. The
owners need to evaluate other factors, such as the demand and competition in
the area of business, before predicting how long it will take to recoup his/her
investment.
• Costly Maintenance – Since this business deals with human health, it is vital to
do routine maintenance to ensure that the quality of water that the business
offers, is always high-quality and does not pose health threats to people.
• Lacks Proprietary Value – Compared to other businesses’ niches, this business
is something that lacks proprietary value. Given this, anyone with the capital
and entrepreneurial experience can open one and compete with you.

activities was halted due to the health hazards and limitations on mobilization.
Given this, many aspiring entrepreneurs have quite an ordeal dealing with their

Water refill stations don’t usually appear on TV and on print ads. This means that they
are often spread by word of mouth. To spread word about the outlet, the owner must
offer flyers in crowded areas in his/her neighborhood like markets and churches. If
more people know about the outlet, then there’s a greater chance to get more clients.
Tactical Marketing Activities
.• Increase public awareness on the dangers of contaminated and chlorinated
drinking water; environmental benefits of water refilling (of large dispensers)
over individual water bottles.
• Network with local business associations. By networking AquaCasa can build

PRICING STRATEGIES
As for the pricing strategies, like any other businesses, AquaCasa Purified Water
Refilling Station, gathered information through surveying 100 people from the area
where the water refilling station is located. The survey is about the type of water people
in the area most prefer to use in drinking, nearby refilling stations, and the pricing
scheme of the nearby refilling stations.
Based on the survey, AquaCasa Management put prices that are not that high so that
their products will be able to compete with the nearby stations. In addition, the survey
also included comments and suggestions so that the outcome of the refilling station
will attract more customers and that it can reassure the owners that the customers are
satisfied with their service.

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGIES
Whenever AquaCasa purified water refilling station cannot economically sell directly,
due to distance or quantities, it will utilize a network of water service to the distributors.
An arrangement will be set up whereby the distributor will receive a special offer in
exchange for the area as storage.
Normally, advance ordering will be the best way to deliver the product on time.
However, there are some circumstances where a product is in need with a short notice.
In this situation, we are committed to provide customers with their needs on time. It
will take an hour to deliver the product to your locations.
AquaCasa will provide additional multicab aside from the 2 tricycles that they are
using. They have also outsourced more commercial tricycles to be used if the
demand is high. They aim to maintain and show their commitment in quality services.
The delivery within the vicinity is free of charge.

ADVERTISING AND SALES PROMOTION
Advertising
As for the business advertisement, AquaCasa Purified Water Refilling Station focuses
on personal contacts. The people that are near the location of the business will
technically talk about the new refilling station established. Through personal
communication, the number of customers will increase. But AquaCasa purified water
refilling station doesn’t completely depend on personal contacts only. Another idea of
advertising is through the display of advertisements, specifically through flyers & social
media platforms.
SALES STRATEGIES
AquaCasa’s sales strategy concentrates on the segment of the sales advertising that
focuses mainly on increasing sales and customers annually. In addition, the fastest
way to reach the sales goal for the first several years is by actively working to develop
a dealership network specifically, water distributors.
Having many water distributors means an increase in sales. At this point, the goal of
the business is to have many water distributors in order to function.
Since purified water refilling stations don’t usually have discounts or promos,
AquaCasa came up with the “Refill 3 + 1” water discount for the month of December
to boost the sales throughout the month and encourage the potential customers to
order at their water station.

The loyal customers will also be given a loyalty card which they can use to redeem a
free gift. All they have to do is, order at least 2 containers to avail a card and a sticker.
The customers need to complete the 10 required stickers to redeem a gift.
Another promotion is that AquaCasa provides a water dispenser whenever a customer
meets a certain amount of orders. Lending out hot and cold water dispensing
machines can make you more appealing over other businesses.

Multimedia Sediment Filter Tank
This type of filter has replaced the conventional sand filter for water refilling
stations. This is a tank made from fiber-reinforced plastic. It removes sediments such
as sand and various other particles from the water through a process known as depth
filtration and backwash. Whereas the sand filter was time-consuming and offered very
slow flow rates, the multimedia sediment filter delivers high-quality filtered water at
much faster flow rates.
Active Carbon Filter Tank
The main function of the carbon filter is to remove any foul taste, odor and color
caused by organic chemicals. This is also done through backwash in the same manner
as the multimedia sediment filter. Most carbon filters have filter bodies made from
fiberglass.

Water Softener Tank
The water softener tank removes hardness from water. It replaces the hard
minerals in the water with soft minerals through ion exchange. Soft water tastes better
and generally is preferred for drinking. It also is healthier because the hard minerals
have been removed.
Reverse Osmosis Membrane
Pre-treated raw water is then pumped through to the CENTRAL PURIFICATION
SYSTEM (RO). RO Technology involves using a high-pressure pump to force a portion
of the feed water through a semipermeable membrane. The amount of permeate
product water produced varies directly with the feed water pressure and temperature.
Since the bulk of the product water contaminants are left on the feed water upstream
side of the membrane and would over time, foul or scale the membrane, a portion of
the feed water is directed to drain. This stream is called reject water, and the amount
of reject water required varies with the amount and type of the contaminants in the
water.
Ultraviolet Lamp/Sterilizer
Water treatment stations use this machine to make sure any germs and disease-
causing microorganisms have been eliminated from the water by emitting ultraviolet
rays as the water is being passed through a reaction chamber.
Ozone Generator
Water in the station is passed through an ozone generator to prevent the growth of
bacteria in the product tank and to prolong the shelf life of the water.
Product Water Storage Tank
This tank stores the RO water, also known as purified water. The bigger the tank, the
more water you store, and the more bottles you can dispense.

Product Water Boosting Pump
Purified Water is boosted thru multiple faucets with appropriate pressure using booster
pump. The stronger the pump, the faster the flow rate of the water at the dispensing
area.
Polishing Carbon
This is used to further improve the taste of the water. Depending on the type of water
refilling station, one or two carbon blocks may be used. If two carbon blocks are used,
then the first one is used to remove any remaining organic contaminants that the water
may still have, while the second is used to improve the taste of the water.

Basic Steps in the Filtration Process
Pre-Treated Holding Tank
Groundwater is pumped to the surface and then redirected into one of our 3 x 1000
litre stainless steel holding tanks, this tank is known as the ‘main feeder tank’. The
main feeder tank holds the groundwater and is fitted with an automatic shut-off valve
to ensure we only pump water when it is actually needed. The other 2 x 1000 litre
tanks hold the processed Purified Drinking Water. Our main groundwater holding tank
has been fitted with a sediment extraction valve which allows the tank to be easily
flushed to remove any foreign matter such as clay or sand extracted from the water
table.
Backwash – Sediment Removal
The main feed tank is fitted with a purpose-built sediment filter that removes any dirt
particles that have been pumped up from the Unconfined Aquifer layer of
Groundwater. This is an important pre-cleaning process that removes any sludge build
up and ensures the ongoing filtration process is optimized and will also protect the
delicate filters used to extract any Ion or chemical components that may have leached
into the groundwater.
Multi-Media Filtration
From the holding tank water is pumped through a series of 3 large Multi-Media filters.
Filter 1: Sediment Filter – this filter is designed to remove a range of fine sediments,
organics and suspended matter down to 10-20 micron size.
Filter 2: Activated Carbon Filter – this filter will remove odor, taste, and chemicals
such as chlorine, synthetic detergents, insecticides and other harmful chemicals.
Filter 3: Water Softening Filter – the filtered water is treated by a softening process to
reduce the magnesium and calcium hardness that may be present in the water.
Magnesium and calcium hardness in water forms scale and foul the Reverse Osmosis
membrane which are critical to the purification process.
Post Multi Media and Pre-Reverse Osmosis Cartridge Filtration
Water is then treated via a series of food grade Polypropylene fiber filters designed for
sediment removal from either potable or groundwater. These sediment filters will
remove solid particles down to 1 micron.

REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO)
What is Osmosis? Osmosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon and one of the most
important processes in nature. It is a situation where a weaker saline solution will tend
to migrate to a strong saline solution. Examples of osmosis are when plant roots
absorb water from the sail and when our kidneys absorb water from our blood.
Reverse Osmosis is the process of Osmosis in reverse. Osmosis occurs naturally
without energy required. To reverse the process of osmosis you need to apply energy
(via a water booster pump) to force unprocessed water through a semipermeable
membrane that allows the passage of water molecules but not the majority of dissolved
salts, organics, bacteria and pyrogens.
Semi-Permeable Membrane
At AquaCasa, they employ two purpose designed Reverse Osmosis membranes.
These are imported from the United States to ensure quality and longevity. These
membranes are very expensive, and every precaution is taken whenever these are
cleaned or handled by our technicians. A range of gauges, meters, valves, regulators
and switches are used to control the flow of product through the filters and into the
Product holding tank or redirected as waste water which can be recycled and used for
general cleaning.
PURIFIED DRINKING WATER PROCESS
This section explains the steps from Reverse Osmosis to Purified Drinking water.
Purified Water Holding Tank
Purified water is collected and stored in our 2 x 1000 litre stainless steel Product
holding tanks. These tanks hold the water ready for the next phases of filtration. This
water is used to produce Aussie Aqua Purified drinking water. Both the Purified and

Distribution Process
Filtered water from the holding tank is depressurized via a Distribution Pump and
pushed through a series of 3 Pre-Ultra Violet (UV) cartridge filters and then through to
the Ultra Violet (UV) chamber before final dispensing into 5-gallon containers or
individual bottles of 350 or 500 milliliter bottles.

WATER QUALITY MONITORING
Source water and product water are subject to regular monitoring by the local health
office. The national standards for drinking water contains 54 parameters that must be
complied with. Only DOH-accredited laboratories are allowed to conduct water testing
and analysis. The frequency of monitoring is as follows:
Bacteriological quality – at least monthly
Physical quality – at least every six (6) months
Chemical quality – at least every six (6) months
Biological quality – at least once a year
Monitoring of radioactive contaminants shall be done only if there is significant input
of radiation from the surrounding environment.

  • 3. 3 | Page EXECUTIVE SUMMARY AquaCasa purified water station is a purified water distribution business owned by Mr. Rizandro C. Nolasco Jr. And Mrs. Ella May U. Nolasco. The water station is located at 391, Purok 2, Alcaraz Subdivision, Brgy. Sto Niño, San Pablo City Laguna. Our target markets are the residents of nearby villages. The owners decided to be in the water refilling business to engage in the sale and supply of treated water to residential apartments, offices, schools, and households. They are also in business to make profit at the same time to give people and businesses who patronize their purified water the opportunity to be part of the success story of AquaCasa Water Refilling Station. Water is an essential commodity. As such The Public Health Department makes sure that all Water Refilling Stations meet dependable health and safety standards. It’s important to keep in mind that if the water in a community is contaminated or polluted; it can result in an epidemic in that community. A water refilling station must implement strict hygiene standards and the environment must always be clean if they want to continue to be in operation. A violation in these measures might result in the Public Health Department shutting down the business. AquaCasa offers safe, clean and purified water at a reasonable price, since they are using one of the advanced technologies in water purification with a 32 stages filtering process which is also an edge in reaching the standard and quality of a purified drinking water. Water Refilling Station Business in the Philippines is undoubtedly a promising and popular venture, especially amongst first time entrepreneurs – since starting and managing a water refilling station is relatively easy; with enough hard work, budget, and the right location. But for the same reason, the competition is also very tight for water refilling business owners, not to mention all the challenges and responsibilities that comes with it.so it's important that a business owner spend a good amount of time analyzing the market and understanding where the demand lies.
  • 4. 4 | Page BACKGROUND OF THE INDUSTRY The demand at the water refilling stations – water stores that sell purified water – is now increasing. The quality of purified water conforms with the national standards for drinking water and is even better than the quality of water produced by traditional water supply systems in terms of removal of impurities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 3.4 million people die annually from water-related diseases. About a million Filipinos get sick with water- borne diseases yearly. And these are diarrhea cases alone. They don’t include other water-borne diseases like amoebiasis, cryptosporidiosis and cholera. These problems are accredited to the poor water system in the Philippines. Even in the capital Manila, only about three fourths of the population receives piped water from the municipal authority. Outside Manila far fewer people have access to clean water distribution. In both locations, these families must find alternative water sources if they are to avoid cholera epidemics and other health problems spawned by the foul, contaminated water available in their neighborhoods. In the provinces, the scenario is worse. Some people rely on wells or even on rivers for their supply of water for their daily consumption. Amidst this uncertainty, a solution has appeared in the thousands of water refilling stations that now dot the Philippine landscape. These shops began as privately-run community sources, where consumers would bring containers and fill them for a per-gallon fee that is a small fraction of commercially bottled water’s cost. At present, about 3,000 water refilling stations have proliferated nationwide. They sell purified water of comparable quality with bottled water at a lower price. For example, the current price per gallon of refilled purified water in Metro Manila ranges from P 50 to P 120 per 5-gallon container or about P 2.50 to P 6.00 per liter while the bottled water is sold at P 12.00 to P 25.00 per liter. Household filters, on the other hand, cost P 5,000 to P 25,000 per unit (1 US $ = P 56 in 2004). In San Pablo Laguna, most of the water refilling stations are connected to the pipes of one concessionary: San Pablo City Water District for their source of raw water while in other areas they opt to use private deep wells. The “potable water” supplied by the providers is then further purified by utilizing a combination of water treatment equipment, such as sediment filters, carbon filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis membranes, ultra-violet lamps, and ozone generators. Typical water refilling stations can produce 3,000 to 12,000 liters of purified water per day. In previous years, most of the people were bringing a container to a water refilling station to buy purified water. Nowadays, because of convenience on the part of the consumers, purified water in 5- gallon (22 liters) containers are delivered by the station directly to the people’s home.

  • 23. 23 | Page MANUFACTURING OR PRODUCTION PROCESS Schematic flow diagram Machinery and equipment Multimedia Sediment Filter Tank This type of filter has replaced the conventional sand filter for water refilling stations. This is a tank made from fiber-reinforced plastic. It removes sediments such as sand and various other particles from the water through a process known as depth filtration and backwash. Whereas the sand filter was time-consuming and offered very slow flow rates, the multimedia sediment filter delivers high-quality filtered water at much faster flow rates. Active Carbon Filter Tank The main function of the carbon filter is to remove any foul taste, odor and color caused by organic chemicals. This is also done through backwash in the same manner as the multimedia sediment filter. Most carbon filters have filter bodies made from fiberglass.
  • 24. 24 | Page Water Softener Tank The water softener tank removes hardness from water. It replaces the hard minerals in the water with soft minerals through ion exchange. Soft water tastes better and generally is preferred for drinking. It also is healthier because the hard minerals have been removed. Reverse Osmosis Membrane Pre-treated raw water is then pumped through to the CENTRAL PURIFICATION SYSTEM (RO). RO Technology involves using a high-pressure pump to force a portion of the feed water through a semipermeable membrane. The amount of permeate product water produced varies directly with the feed water pressure and temperature. Since the bulk of the product water contaminants are left on the feed water upstream side of the membrane and would over time, foul or scale the membrane, a portion of the feed water is directed to drain. This stream is called reject water, and the amount of reject water required varies with the amount and type of the contaminants in the water. Ultraviolet Lamp/Sterilizer Water treatment stations use this machine to make sure any germs and disease- causing microorganisms have been eliminated from the water by emitting ultraviolet rays as the water is being passed through a reaction chamber. Ozone Generator Water in the station is passed through an ozone generator to prevent the growth of bacteria in the product tank and to prolong the shelf life of the water. Product Water Storage Tank This tank stores the RO water, also known as purified water. The bigger the tank, the more water you store, and the more bottles you can dispense.
  • 25. 25 | Page Product Water Boosting Pump Purified Water is boosted thru multiple faucets with appropriate pressure using booster pump. The stronger the pump, the faster the flow rate of the water at the dispensing area. Polishing Carbon This is used to further improve the taste of the water. Depending on the type of water refilling station, one or two carbon blocks may be used. If two carbon blocks are used, then the first one is used to remove any remaining organic contaminants that the water may still have, while the second is used to improve the taste of the water.
  • 27. 27 | Page Basic Steps in the Filtration Process Pre-Treated Holding Tank Groundwater is pumped to the surface and then redirected into one of our 3 x 1000 litre stainless steel holding tanks, this tank is known as the ‘main feeder tank’. The main feeder tank holds the groundwater and is fitted with an automatic shut-off valve to ensure we only pump water when it is actually needed. The other 2 x 1000 litre tanks hold the processed Purified Drinking Water. Our main groundwater holding tank has been fitted with a sediment extraction valve which allows the tank to be easily flushed to remove any foreign matter such as clay or sand extracted from the water table. Backwash – Sediment Removal The main feed tank is fitted with a purpose-built sediment filter that removes any dirt particles that have been pumped up from the Unconfined Aquifer layer of Groundwater. This is an important pre-cleaning process that removes any sludge build up and ensures the ongoing filtration process is optimized and will also protect the delicate filters used to extract any Ion or chemical components that may have leached into the groundwater. Multi-Media Filtration From the holding tank water is pumped through a series of 3 large Multi-Media filters. Filter 1: Sediment Filter – this filter is designed to remove a range of fine sediments, organics and suspended matter down to 10-20 micron size. Filter 2: Activated Carbon Filter – this filter will remove odor, taste, and chemicals such as chlorine, synthetic detergents, insecticides and other harmful chemicals. Filter 3: Water Softening Filter – the filtered water is treated by a softening process to reduce the magnesium and calcium hardness that may be present in the water. Magnesium and calcium hardness in water forms scale and foul the Reverse Osmosis membrane which are critical to the purification process. Post Multi Media and Pre-Reverse Osmosis Cartridge Filtration Water is then treated via a series of food grade Polypropylene fiber filters designed for sediment removal from either potable or groundwater. These sediment filters will remove solid particles down to 1 micron.
  • 28. 28 | Page REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) What is Osmosis? Osmosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon and one of the most important processes in nature. It is a situation where a weaker saline solution will tend to migrate to a strong saline solution. Examples of osmosis are when plant roots absorb water from the sail and when our kidneys absorb water from our blood. Reverse Osmosis is the process of Osmosis in reverse. Osmosis occurs naturally without energy required. To reverse the process of osmosis you need to apply energy (via a water booster pump) to force unprocessed water through a semipermeable membrane that allows the passage of water molecules but not the majority of dissolved salts, organics, bacteria and pyrogens. Semi-Permeable Membrane At AquaCasa, they employ two purpose designed Reverse Osmosis membranes. These are imported from the United States to ensure quality and longevity. These membranes are very expensive, and every precaution is taken whenever these are cleaned or handled by our technicians. A range of gauges, meters, valves, regulators and switches are used to control the flow of product through the filters and into the Product holding tank or redirected as waste water which can be recycled and used for general cleaning. PURIFIED DRINKING WATER PROCESS This section explains the steps from Reverse Osmosis to Purified Drinking water. Purified Water Holding Tank Purified water is collected and stored in our 2 x 1000 litre stainless steel Product holding tanks. These tanks hold the water ready for the next phases of filtration. This water is used to produce Aussie Aqua Purified drinking water. Both the Purified and Alkaline processes will be explained in the remaining paragraphs. Distribution Process Filtered water from the holding tank is depressurized via a Distribution Pump and pushed through a series of 3 Pre-Ultra Violet (UV) cartridge filters and then through to the Ultra Violet (UV) chamber before final dispensing into 5-gallon containers or individual bottles of 350 or 500 milliliter bottles.

The national standards for drinking water contains 54 parameters that must be complied with. Only DOH-accredited laboratories are allowed to conduct water testing and analysis.
